nitrotech: Strange, I signed up yesterday via the 0800 number and got the sim and phone (2 different courier packs) today.

I got emails with tracking numbers for both, the only thing i'm waiting on is the port which I did at 2pm today and still nothing - so much for the 2 hours to port.


Did you port online as well?  I did mine earlier, but mine hasn't moved yet either, just waiting on it 




I have moved across the ditch.  Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

The first time I rang slingshot to find out what was going on with my account the guy had no idea at all! that was Wednesday.On Friday night I rang again this time the guy had a vastly getter grasp on the situation and signed me up again(I still have the same account number). It puts me at the back of the q but at least It seems now that they see me at the end. Before it seems I was at the front of the q but to short to be seen from the counter!

I recieved my phone today (already had my SIM). All works great! Thanks Slingshot!

Anybody know how to check your TXT/Call balance? 0800892000 only tells me my account balance (phone, internet and mobile)

There was 2 free Nokia's listed I almost clicked on the wrong phone. 


I only had 2 choices, and one was only free on 24 months.

Can only XT customers get the 12 month free offer?

On the online signup form the offer will be available for all Telecom customers (regardless of whether they?re on CDMA or XT and regardless of where in NZ they live). This offer is not open to Vodafone, 2degrees or Telstra Clear customers.



I've now tried twice to bring across a CDMA number - both time been told is only applies to connections on the Telecom XT Network, and I can port the number across, but the standard monthly fee applies. 

Any tips to make this happen?

Go to a Telecom shop ask for a free upgrade to XT prepay, they will move your number to XT SIM. Now you can move to slingshot. Obviously if you have no XT compatible phone you won't get any calls on the new XT SIM. You would have to wait for the slingshot SIM and Phone then port number.

Yes. Ring them again, and explain clearly and slowly that you ARE allowed to transfer CDMA telecom numbers and get this deal. Explain this has been verified by Slingshot customer help, two supervisors, a representitive here, AND a new customer who has done exactly that TWICE (me).

Then ask to speak to a supervisor. I CANNOT believe there are STILL customer help staff who are unaware of this - I ran into one myself, and almost gave up (he was very convincing and confident sounding).

Don't give up.

Other news: I am STILL waiting on the porting to actually happen. Even though I initiated it something like 11am Friday - and it's supposed to happen inside 2 hrs - it STILL hasn't happened. Apparently NOTHING will now happen until Monday (according to Technical help - wish I got there first, get a lot more sense a lot faster).

Apparently the porting list gets sent to Vodafone who do the actual porting. Vodafone then feed the list to a dozen specially bred cats, who then excrete the processed list from their digestive tract and is used to make coffee. Beyond that I do not know - it's very technical.

Opp, looks like they try to deliver my SIM/phone on saturday morning (Im not home atm). I didn't think courier's delivered on saturday! Will have to go pick them up on Monday morning..

The cheaper couriers ie Fastway(which really sucks here in Welly :() don't

CourierPost do :) they are fast as too, i'm one of the first on their route, so walking out there in my dressing gown at 6.40am kind of sucks.  At least whatever gadget that arrives at that time wakes me up with excitement

We dont have TXT service up for that yet. However, you can check online via Visibill - accessed via My Account

ahmad: Having thought about this offer long and hard I can only come up with one major "catch" for the offer apart from:

1. $9.95 courier fee (which was not disclosed upfront, and only is mentioned well into the signup process over the phone - but which I accept is insignificant considering the overall offer), and;

2. If you decide to port your number to another provider or plan at the end of 12 months then I suspect you will be up for at least some pro rata of the $20 monthly fee that is due in the 13th month. You wouldn't do a port in the 12 month for fear of incurring an early disconnection penalty (far too difficult/impossible to plan to port it out exactly at the end of 12 month). So if you do it (say) in the first week of the 13th month then I suspect Slingshot would still charge you some or all of that $20 for the 13th month no matter how quickly you try to port in the 13th month.

Of course I'm hoping that the mobile market changes enough over the next 12 months that people that take up this offer will be offered something amazing next year to avoid a mass exodus of customers (hint hint Wink)


1. Yes, this should have been disclosed on the offer page. We have it else where, but it needs to be upfront. Will be making that change today.

2. It's all one month in advance, so yes if on the 13th month it may prove difficult to escape the $20 access fee. Mind due you've just had it for free for a year ;)


A few quick questions for Slingshot after reading the T&C:
(1) Is there any porting fee in or out for an XT Prepaid number "14(c) We may charge you a fee for porting the Phone Number. Please call Customer Services on 0800 89 2000 to find out the fee. "
(2) Can you confirm that any mobile supplied under this promotion belongs to the customer and doesn't remain the property of Slingshot? - I see 16(e) says "return any equipment that belongs to us. " but I would assume from the promotional wording that the mobile becomes the Customer's property? I see that an earlier statement does say that the "The SIMcard we issue you remains our property, so please return it in good condition and within 15 working days after your connection or this agreement ends. If you do not do this we may charge you for the cost of a new SIMcard."
(3) Can multiple XT connections be ported by a customer under this deal and if so would a free phone be supplied for each?

Thanks - would appreciate answers from 'Slingshot' re these - posted in forum rather than PM as others may have the same questions.
