Daylo:
Ragnor:
Residential internet is a best effort shared network service with no guarantee of performance or reliability.

If that's the approach then their marketing plan and advertising should state that.  Imagine that.  They'd have fewer customers ... so I guess less of them to complain about "blistering fast services".

That is the reality for all consumer adsl everywhere.

Normally it runs well but it's not a business class connection with dedicated CIR's and 99.999 uptime gaurantees etc.

Faults have already been logged work is being done, you just need to relax and be realistic.

So if I understand correctly, after reading this thread and others, we're back at "peak time lag hell" issues? Confirm? Deny? Uncertainty?

As of now, my latency in game is back to just over 300ms ... not bad considering between 7pm and 11pm NZ it's at a respectable 2000ms to 6000ms (approx.).

Woohoo and party hats!

I sent my whizbang magic orcon tool results back ... ping'n'traceroute'n'speedtest scripties ... go go gadget!

Yes both WoW and Vent were absolutely ... "terribad" last night and the previous night !!

Last night:

ME: "Meh sorry peeps I have some pretty bad latency and it's just hit around 4000ms ..."
Them: "WTFROFLMAOBBQSAUCE!!!!!1111oneone11!!1one!!!111ISPBASNESS!?!?!?111!!!one!!11"
ME: "yeah it's a bad night to tank ... *le sigh* "
Them: "Just see how it goes ... change to DPS spec. PlayerX, switch to tank spec go!"
ME: "kk ... I'm ready"

... lining up Marrowgar
... tanks pull

Disconnect!!

ME: "ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!"

... reconnect ...

Disconnect!!

Gives up after trying 5 (or so) more times.

Hmmm ... Vent appears to be working but is very quiet ... but wait !!! .... INCOMING 25+ people chatting at once!!! WOOHOO VENT LAG incoming ear crits!!!!

(yes I tend to add sarcasm and general humour in amongst my (in reality) dissatisfaction ...

Poor, poor, poor ...

I wonder if the All Blacks had anything to do with that.
I was frustratingly slow earlier today while I was trying to work (online). Max speedtest was 3Mbps and youtube couldn't play anything without long stops to buffer.

Now for me it's fantastic though.

My theory goes something along the lines of... some internet users didn't log on to compete for bandwidth because they were watching the game, and then went out afterwards to celebrate.

Goooo the ABs!

I fix stuff!

Also supply your IP address.

I had already logged a call and provided all required information, even using the "Orcon tool" they sent.

I received the following email on Friday the 11th which I find odd unless Orcon do some whizzbang special magic etc to WoW servers and recent changes affected that ...?
Anyway, since this email I have been at a steady 350-400ms latency since Friday night.  Not as good as the usual 250-300ms, but far better than 5000 to 6000ms latency in WoW.

If this holds tonight in a 25 person raid, I'll be happy and reply to this.

======================
Hi there,

Thank you for your email regarding slow speeds while gaming.

>From your email I understand you are experiencing latency spikes in game. Due to changes made by Blizzard to their set up we have identified an issue and have made some chages that should help.

Please test it out over the week end and get back in touch if required.

I hope this information was helpful and if you have any other queries please do not hesitate to email me back or call me on 0800-13-14-15.
Kindest Regards,

Martin **removed**

I had real problems with games last night as well. It took up to 30 secs to refresh what normally would be instant.

All good here, but then I have given up on Orcon and joined Telecom. Cutover happened on Monday and haven't looked back since.
