This. Same speed issues. Seems like the same thing that happened... earlier in September, when it went bad for a day? Horrible timing though - I have a lot of drivers and junk I need to grab today.

Yeah, that was on the 15th of Sept. It's exactly the same symptoms today.
Same slow speeds for both domestic and international, so it's not an international data issue.
It's not my modem either, I'm syncing at 22Mbps down line rate, with an attainable line rate of 25Mbps... Fastest I've ever seen.
And yeah, I have a lot of updates to download today too.
Very frustrating.
I've posted on here, twittered to Orcon, and Emailed Orcon about it, but no response,
and there is no info on the Orcon Status updates page to show anything about it.
It would be good if they kept that page up to date, and updated it faster to reflect issues.

If it's anything like the last time it happened, by the time Orcon support actually get back to anyone about it (asking you to run their diagnostics program, of course), it'll be fixed, with no updates on the website or mention of it at all.

Good thing and bad thing, I suppose - good that it should/might be fixed by later or tomorrow if it's the same issue, bad that there's so little information given when errors like this occur.

But really, what's the point of a network status page if it leaves things out and only updates after issues are solved?

I absolutely agree with every point.

Agreed.

Back in the '90's when I was with XTRA they had a status page which was almost never updated. They would have a massive network-wide fault and the page would say "All network operations are operating normally". The only time they changed that page was during the week-long power outage in Auckland and even then it said it was operating normally 'despite' the power outage.

One of the reasons why I switched to IHUG at the time was they actually kept their status page up to date with all issues (even if they were minor issues) occurring on their network. I don't think they do that anymore, but having an ISP being open and honest to their customers about the real state of their network was a big attraction for me.

Many ISPs could learn from that IMHO -- especially Orcon. Given the fragile state of their network, I think they need to invest in improving communications to customers via a status page to reduce the amount of calls to their helpdesk about minor network faults.

Nice. Either someone saw this thread or they decided to do an update independently:
Currently on Status updates
"We are experiencing an outage of all iSERVE based services due to a routing issue.
Engineers are working on the issue and we will update you as progress is made.
We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience during this time."

Hey, at least we know it is a known issue, assuming that update refers to the current slowdown...

EDIT: Actually, I don't think an iSERVE issue would have anything to do with customers' down speeds, would it... Maybe that post is unrelated to this issue.

iSERVE is essentially a Web Host started by some ex-Paradise people (and others). Orcon purchased it some time recently I believe.

The whole day has been like this , and nothing still on the network page. Bad Form.
And you guys want to be the carrier for the isky service.....can't wait to see the network collapse.

Yeah, there's definitely some issue today, I think for those of us not on LLU, it's ridiculous, same as on 15/09. Hope it comes right overnight though!

Okay, speeds finally back to normal.
16-18 Mbps domestic, 8-10Mbps trans-tasman, 5 or 6 Mbps from the States.
Whatever the issue WAS, Orcon, it's been resolved, no help from you.
I imagine that in about 2 weeks time I'll get a standardised form email from Kuthrapali Patel in Customer Services, asking me to do an isolation test and run the Orcon Diagnostic program...
