NZCrusader: well the phone , tolls and AYCE pack is good value.

I see on the slingshot forums the christchurch lag issue is fixed ?

My friend still getting good speeds & pings constantly on AYCE.
He downloaded an 8gb HD movie in 2 nights.
With Worldnet ive been downloading that same file for 3 weeks and only on 27%.

I was just like you; I thought that Slingshot couldn't be all that bad and that my friends warning me to stay away from slingshot were over reacting.

Well I didnt listen to them and I regret joining slingshot 2 months in but I am locked in a contract that I have to pay $149 to get out of.

Do not be a fool.... dont join Slingshot.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

He joined worldnet despite everyone warning against doing so, so no amount of discourage is going to stop him from joining AYCE. He's just one of those greedy people that need unlimited internet.

Why is expecting what most of the world has considered greedy?

Or a student like me who can't afford to have any bill shock, but needs enough internet for a house full of people.

The rest of the world isn't isolated on an island in the middle of no where where hardly any content lives. Also the rest of the world are moving towards large data caps as opposed to unlimited internet

Fair enough, however there are plans that cap you to dialup though not preferable it isn't bound by the draconian shaping on unlimited plans

Actually only a couple of companies in the U.S are moving towards Large datacaps and are loosing customers over it.

I don't think they'll care about customer churn because very soon everybody will be doing it,

You also ignore the issue that in the USA a significant number of people have no choice when it comes to broadband. They're stuck with the single provider that can provide them with service, something many people in NZ don't seem appreciative of!

What are you complaining about? You're speedtest isn't even bad ??

that was a speedtest taken when speeds were good.

I take it you have never lived in the US then.

I have lived in the US for a number of years and where the majority of the population lives in the large cities and even in the smaller towns and cities there is multiple choices for ISP's and unlike in NZ they actually give a damn when they loose customers.
I used to work for a large american ISP so yes I know this.

Better to loose the unprofitable customers than to keep them.

The u.s has a different economic pricing structure for buying bandwidth so losing the people who download lots is not losing the least profitable customers.

There was a issue particular to the south island which has been resolved. If you try another speedtest chances are it's fine.

My speeds have been pretty terrible lately. I can't even load youtube videos :(

Bingo.

Got a house full of people.
Sometimes end up using 60gb in a month. Sometimes end up using over 100gb in a month.

Dont want to get a nasty bill shock, and cant afford the premium plans, not to mention family needs a toll package & the phone is more expensive with not being in the city.

Just need something affordable, something faster than dial up / worldnet ( theres no difference ), and that I can play games at night.

Doesnt look like telecoms bringing out another unlimited plan. So this is about it.

And no im not one of those greedy people.
Most ive ever done in a month was 180gb on Big Time, downloading 2 tv series onto my external HDD + the usual net use of the family + me per month.

I wasnt one of those greedy 1tb in a month a**holes, and I didnt use any methods to get around the management on speed.

The reason why im going with slingshot:
-My friend is getting good speeds 50-600kb/s & low ping times, which is heaps for us, its affordable & in one easy package.

BTW I joined with worldnet because I seriously didnt think that the speeds would be so bad that it would hang around 3-12kb/s 24/7.

I was expecting around 100-200kb/s, as on telecom i got 600-740kb/s.
