Go here http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/tw/public/website/wholesale/technologies/!ut/p/c5/vY5JDoJAEEXP4gFM... and put your address in and check that you are not in a cabinet area, if you are then orcon should never have put you on the plus network.

OK, it seems like I am going to have to find out some stats, how would I go about doing that?

Sorry for all of the q's, I am more into computers, not so much networks =p.

I think richms mentioned how to do it for your modem in an earlier post - sounds as though it isn't 100% straight forward for you Undecided

OK, now I got it, I will have to do the test tommorrow,

As for the cabinet areas, it showed this:

OK, so it looks as though you are currently connected directly to the exchange (no cabinet yet) and that it is already ADSL2+.

Your speed problem may be due to a low connection speed because of distance from the exhange, however there's several other more likely possibilities that are better diagnosed once you get those connection stats.

I don't know whether Orcon has their own equipment in that exchange.

if you are the only user(no downloading while u testing), then definitely it is your phone line problem or your modem(posting your noise margin info will help to understand).

You could prove out the modem by trying a different one then comparing download speeds and line stats...




Time to find a new industry!

Hey everyone, sorry for not being "active". There was an auckland-wide orcon broadband outage 2 days ago and yesterday I was busy as hell. Hopefully I can get some line stats tomorrow...

What's your guys opinions? Will it make a difference, I don't want to waste my money...

It might, it might not. Depends entirely on where the problem lies with your connection. With there being several different things that could be the problem, personally I wouldn't be throwing money at something without doing the investigatiom / diagnosis first.

Keep looking for those modem line stats....

I am right in thinking that the pass word for the modem is the same as the one for the orcon login?

Well, I logged into Orcon via the website, then tried the same username and password on the modem NO LUCK.

I might ring orcon and see if they can help...

richms: You cant get the whole lot of stats out of the 632 without putting it in debug mode and telnetting into it. I have replaced mine with an 834g so I can tweek the noise margin so cant give the exact commands to telnet with, but the debug command is

http://10.20.0.1/cgi-bin/webcm?todo=debug

except change the IP to what yours is on.

Then telnet to it and I think it was

cat /proc/avalance/avsar_modem_stats or similar


OK, did the first step, degub mode on. How do i telenet to it?
