lokhor: I got my whole family to switch and port their numbers from Vodafone to 2Degrees. I kept my number when switching as it's such a good number and it's people on Vodafone's fault that texting me costs 20c. If they have a problem they should switch to a better provider.

Lol, that's a pretty simplistic view. Pity it's not so easy for some people.

Good to see 2 degrees opening a call centre in Christchurch and employing New Zealanders, sad to see other telcos relocating call centres overseas. 2d gets my support.

They are better value; yet they can afford a NZ based call center? Odd. 


more like they can't afford an overseas one.

Setting up an overseas call centre is initially very expensive and you only get the payback when you put a huge volume of calls through it. 
IOW it will only be justified by large businesses. 
2D are probably not large enough to generate enough calls to make it worthwhile.

2D are probably not large enough to generate enough calls to make it worthwhile.


Plus 2D are pretty focused on Online Self Service... So the more tech savvy folks are on 2D, and with their auto-top-ups the calls to their helpdesk would be lower I suspect.

I would be interested too in the porting stats.... Shame no one can post them :(.

But 2D will have to post their customer count as part of their Stock Market filing... So wait for that to come out.

what stock market filing?  they are not a public listed company and have no obligation to publish connection volumes. (they still might choose to do it of course)

120k sounds reasonable, about a third of the total numbers ported in NZ

My understanding of the way it works is this:

The 240MB smartphone add-on (currently doubled to 480MB for the next 12 months)  is $28, which is split into $12 for text and $16 for the data.  
If you never use the texts though, then you only get charged for the data.  
That gets you to $16 for 480Mb of data. 
But with maximum bonus topups that is effectively reduced by 25%, to get $12 for 480MB.   
Not sure where the $11 comes from though - prob a rounding error.

I am going to guess 400,000. I know a lot of people who are waiting for their contracts to end so they can move to 2D. When are the stats released?

Ahh I didn't know they were published.  But not broken down by carrier / service provider.
