Delayed with me by ages, still getting txt's from after the quake asking if I am alright (and it's 12hrs after that now) - But I am in Christchurch City Centre, that's expected.

I've recieved no texts including one sent to self over 24 hours ago. Two other people have text me yesterday ,
none arrived. News years eve was fine and you think that would congest it.

Most of mine were Wellington to Wellington texts so I am not sure if congestion was actually the issue. Other networks were coping with texts fine and calls on 2degrees weren't a problem. I could easily be wrong though.

Same here, only around 10% of my Auckland-Auckland on-network texts went through. Interesting because the only friends that have reported this issue have all been on 2degrees. No similar issues from my Telecom or Vodafone friends -- they just experienced somewhat delayed texts. 2degrees on the other hand actually lost texts and the ones that did go through went through several times over the next 5 or so hours.

I don't blame 2degrees for the CHC earthquake, however I'm a bit surprised at the SMS issues. At Christmas in the Park last year (with lots of local congestion) 2degrees was the only GSM network to work reliably. I had the same experience at other big events -- VF GSM would have issues and 2degrees GSM would be fine. Not sure how the UMTS networks fared.

So I'm a bit bemused that a CHC congestion issue can have such a big impact on SMS services between 2degrees customers in Auckland.

Every city / town does not have its own SMSC's so the SMS traffic all over NZ is load Balanced between maybe one or two places For Vodafone NZ all SMS traffic is load Balanced between 2 city's
