I have both national data (50MB) as part of the on account plan and an additional 50MB purchased with the buy function. This shows up fine on the web site, just not on the phone.

The USSD is working fine for me now. Thanks for the link to the 2degrees toolbox. I didn't even think to search the market for something like that.
