Yes, that's correct. The minutes are not carryover though. That's for pay monthly.

Just as an aside, unlike some telcos, when 2 Degrees gives new deals with one hand, it doesn't take with the other Big Giant Hand... Telecom reduces price of prepaid calling... But wait! There's more!

Yes, that's correct. The minutes are not carryover though. That's for pay monthly.

So say I top up $ 30, and bought the $19 pack in a month.
Once I used up all the 30 calling minutes.
For extra calls, do I get charged 22c or 44c for calls to other 2degrees friends within that month?

I will stand corrected but purchasing the $19 Pack would not override your TopUp magic of 22c calling 2c TXTing for 30 days after topping up!

wouldn't you also need to take into account the fact that something 80% of calls people make are usually to one number and so a best mates/my favourites would reduce the average price people pay massively?

Not to mention that vodafone give 4 weekends of 100 minutes of calling when you topup and telecom give 4 weekends of unlimited calling to landlines when you topup.
vodafone also have the family plan which gives you unlimited calls to 3 other numbers when one person pays $20
Oh and don't forget that 2D charges a different rate of 22cpm after a topup of the next 30 days.
Telecom also gives prizes for topping up which are often bunches of minutes e.g. 20 minutes to mobiles.

In other words, a simple comparison of standard prepay rates doesn't relfect real world pricing so is basically pointless for most people.

Every plan will suit some better than others. It was more a stab at the fact the new XT rate min+min while coming down from 89c to 69c is great it is still far from the 44c base stock standard rate available on 2degrees.

We digress, this thread is about the new $19 combo pack

also, because this lasts a month, isn't this classed as 'pay monthly' anyway? i.e. despite it being on prepaid, I still pay a set amount every month. That means 'pay monthly' in my book.

It's a Pre Pay 'Value Pack' and the minutes do not roll over as with Pay Monthly plans. Like the text, data and talk packs if you do not have enough credit at the end of the 30 days it will not auto-renew. There are no 'Credit Checks', 'contracts' or 'Tie-ins', just great Pre Pay mobile value and you can add the other value packs as you need them.

As the title says in the video link '2degrees Pay Monthly. Get Carryover Minutes that last a year, not a month.'

Mantis who do you work for anyway?

Of course comparison tables are limited they do offer useful information and people are smart enough to ise the information in conjunction with other aspects of each network.

No-one is saying 2 Degrees is the best for all people. But it sure as hell is cheapest for a hell of a lot of people.

Assuming you use up the pack stuff within 30 days of topping up, your calls and texts will be at the 22/2 rates for the remainder of the 30 day period. So, if you topup at least $20 a month because if the $19 pack, then you should almost always be on 22/2 thereafter.

Yeah, and I suppose if you set up an automated monthly (say) $25 topup then you are covered and sorted

It does beg the question, with the automated plans and topups combined it does start to feel that it is now longer prepay (thats not a bad thing).

As ^POB said above though, there are fundamental differences between a monthly "Pay Monthly" plan and pre-pay with auto-recur and auto-topup.

With prepaid you aren't committed for more than the timeframe your purchased package is valid for. Also I haven't looked into it but I presumed that Pay Monthly is a true "Postpaid" plan in that you don't pay until after you've used the services? ie. You are billed for what you used the previous month rather than having to pay upfront for everything like "Prepaid"?

While I'm not with 2 Degrees for my primary mobile services (largely due to Dunedin not being the mobile broadband zone), I love the way this company works and the attitude it shows to its customers. Of the 3 major Telcos, they seem to me to be the most upfront, and not once have I come across 2 Degrees trying to dupe customers with fine print or partially hidden information that makes the original offering better than it seems.

Also I really like the fact that every innovation they have introduced to the NZ market comes in addition to previous innovations and offers - not instead of. The additive nature of their frequent new offers has really impressed me and I look forward to their arrival in Dunedin.

The difference for me is 1% vs 99%.
And I will choose a telco to satisfy my 99% needs, rather than caring about the 100%, and all the least important factors which I never use.
Nothing is 100% perfect.
So 2degrees is my choice after using Vodafone for 8 years.

You make a lot of assumptions with that. The biggest is that what you use is the same as everyone else.

Three of our four mobiles are on 2 degrees, I refuse to move mine until I can send international texts to the locations I need, Vodafone still meets my needs in the other areas. That is why I am still a Vodafone customer since the BellSouth days.
