Out of interest is anyone who's seeing it run slow running IPv6?

Yes, I discovered that was the issue here, with IPv6 disabled Youtube is a lot quicker though even with IPv6 disabled I still get buffering on HD. 480p is the maximum I can play at without buffering.

Was your v6 working or broken? I think google's having v6 issues, Not sure

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

It was working yes but I'm using the Gogo6 utility on WinXP, the tunnel endpoint is somewhere in the US. That was causing quite a slowdown in the data flow until I disabled it.

Just anothe reason I'm thinking of ditching Orcon. I have a feeling they may be degrading the performance to people with broadband accounts who don't also have phone service with them. They don't really want these customers. Making their service crap would be a good way to make them move the phone over or get lost.

Not saying that's what they are doing....but my performance on 22mbps DSL to YouTube is garbage.

(My bolding above) That's an absolutely disgusting thing to even suggest based on nothing more than an imagined conspiracy theory.

Cheers - N

Life is full of "disgusting things to even suggest" that later prove to be true.

Harden up , Petal.

If it were found to be true, it wouldn't be the first time a company degraded service to a group of customers it wanted to move onto a new service option.

Windows, anyone?

I give up. Never ascribe to malice that which can be explained by stupidity (or transient network conditions)

CHeers - N

That's always been a facile piece of illogic. Some things are malicious.

Anyway....I do speculate across the entire range. Any option is potentially valid until I know it isn't.

I'm already annoyed enough that I'm not ALLOWED to change my service plan without either cancelling altogether or giving them my phone line. So from my point of view it isn't very big stretch at all to at least consider what else they might do that is hostile to keeping me as a customer.

How would they degrade your internet connection, by singling you out and going to all the trouble of re configuring their core network equipment to increase ping, dns lookup and such?

It is slow with IPv6, Snap are trying to get IPv6 addressing onto their google cache which will fix it, until then traffic is coming from the US..

Ever since I added the 'All you can eat' Google and Youtube addon to my broadband plan at the start of last month I've been having major issues with anything Google related.

- Logging in Google services more often than not times out.
- Youtube search takes forever as does loading each page for videos. Although the actually stream fast enough once the page loads. Its just the 5 minute wait for that to happen that is annoying.
- Similiar thing with Google search. Results take a long time to load and following links from results is the same until getting to the actual page I'm looking for.

Tracert to accounts.google.com as follows.

Hey I am having huge issues. Maybe I should have checked geekzone before emailing tech support.

Naked ADSL, everything google realted seems slow. Slow to log into gmail, youtube etc.. But streaming web searching all seems OK.

This is the second time this has happened to me, I emailed snap asked them to check because I am convinced they shaping traffic. The problem seems to have started since they launched the google/youtube addon. I was just told by support to check my DNS. And thats all fine.
Spent two evenings now trying to fault find this. Even gone as far as reverting my router to its defaults - Nothing.

Yes I too was told it must be at my end. I've tested with vodafone 3g and also using a vpn to the states and all works as it should. Its time snap maned up and admit they're having issues and stop deflecting their obvious problems.

From memory Snap advertise their IP ranges to Google.

My youtube is working fine and is pulling fine from their youtube cache.

Also remember that they wont have every single youtube video on the cache, as they pull the video off other servers and then cache it locally.
Always keep that in mind.

The problem isn't the streaming of the videos but actual page loading times and a whole lot of timeouts.

Same issues with vodafone. Have not had any issues with snap, although maybe 2 weeks ago I was having loading issues with youtube, google and facebook. Even on my own site, the site would load fine, however the google ads would display a dns error.
There are several threads going through GeekZone at the moment with striking similar issues, yet most posts seem to be directed mainly at telstra clear's cables.
