Hi guys,

I see there is a few of you having speed issues during peak times as well as general fluctuations. I am compiling a list to send to our Network team so I need all of you to provide me the following;

- Confirmation you have proven out your CPE (Tried two modems etc).
- I need you to PM me your account number.
- Download and Upload from speed tests(National and International).
- DSL synch rate Up and Down(Found in modem).
- Previous speed test results.
- What you are experiencing issues with(International?Browsing?Streaming?)

I will be in touch with an update as soon as I know if there is an issue.

Thanks,
Ben

Given that Maxnet have launched their fyx service today allowing global access can we expect Slingshot to follow suit in due course?

chocolatemurderer: Hi Joe, please excuse the lack of caps... yeah was 200KB/s to 250KB/s. National DL is fine, I tried with an ubuntu ISO from nz server. it was decent at about 1000KB/s (at the same time hero of newerth client was also dling) but it just seems International is maxed out at around 250KB/s as I tested DLing both Hero of newerth client and an ubuntu ISO from uk server, having both dl going at the same time will give a combined speed of about 250KB/s. When you combine national and international i can get to full line rate most of the time. but international seem low.

I would say this is fairly common for internationl DL, if national is at 1000KB/s then there is not going to be anything we can do to make it any better at this stage.

Cheers,
Joe.

Nebbie: During peek times I can download nationally at full line rates 1.6mbps however International sites are slower around 200 - 300kbps I would say this is due to peak loading times. I would never expect line rates from international sites, saying that I would not expect anything less then 100kbps.

Hi guys, Cheers for the response. The thing is, International it is at 200KB/s after 12 midnight and surely that is not peak hours?

Nebbie says that at peak he wouldnt expect it to go below 100kbps but you are getting 200KB/s (1600kbps) so your connection is far above that.

Cheers,
Joe.

Can someone from Slingshot explain why the $60 offer was suddenly withdrawn, despite I had agreed to the offer? I tried to respond earlier but Geekzone was rejecting my overseas IP address (now I'm back in NZ).

Otherwise I have to go to TDR about this...

Cheers

milehighclubnz: Hello Slingshot Geekzone lurkers

When I was paying my bill online on 6 April, I checked the prices of the new bundles and I found I could have got "Broadband 10" for $13.30 less and 5G more and faster data than my current "Voyager 256", of which I've completed the 2-year contract at the end of March.

I immediately emailed Customer Service to switch to Broadband 10. The next day (7 April) I got a reply asking me to personally call Slingshot to confirm. Since I am overseas and I've paid my April, I thought I would just call Slingshot a week or so before the next statement date to have the new Broadband 10 from the next billing cycle.

Today (23 April) I called Slingshot to confirm my intention to switch, but I was sold now the same Broadband 10 cost $71. How could prices suddenly change? It wasn't the end of the month/quarter/billing cycle. I wasn't informed of any deadline of the $60 offer, nor the website advertised the expiry of the offer.

I would like Slingshot to honour the $60/month offer for Broadband 10 - I have advised Slingshot my intention to take up the offer; I've followed the instruction to personally call back to confirm my intention. Now Slingshot wants $132 extra a year for the offer I had agreed to?

By the way Slingshot could have automatically "upgraded" me to Broadband 10 - I was paying $13.30 more and getting 5GB less. Really not pleased about that.

It would be my oversight had there been an advise of the offer deadline; there simply wasn't one.

Cheers

Hi,

The $60 has been retired as we have a new $69 deal for new customers.

However, PM me your account number and i'll take a look and see if I can do something for you

No need for TDR unless a complaint is in deadlock or has been open for 6 weeks without a resolution.

Thanks,
Ben

I have a question regarding Slingshot and RBI cabinets.

My understanding is that Slingshot doesn't control where an address gets routed to with respect to DSL, i.e. exchange or cabinet.

However the Chorus availability tool shows that RBI cabinets where installed in my area of Bombay during September last year. This coincided with a drop off in speed of my broadband.

It wasn't great before, with around 4000kbs down and 700kbs up but now i'm down to 2600kbs down and 888kbs up. I've called Slingshot a few times and get told this is good speed - my question is why should I accept a drop in speed when I believed the RBI was supposed to make it better!

Appreciate thoughts from Slingshot and others on this and any way forward to improved my speeds.

Hi,

Private message me your account details and i'll take a look for you. Your speed shouldn't drop when a cabinet goes in unless you are on an LLU connection, in which case we have a work around for that too.

Thanks,
Ben

Hi there.

We have been having slow internet at our house. First thought it could have been the router, so tried another one, tried another line filter and done speedtests (both national and international) from multiple PCs on the network, but we never get more than 2Mbps down and 800Kbps up. When we had the linesman here connecting us (the last guys were disconnected) he cleaned the line up for us and said we had a nice clean line. Both routers have said we have been connected using ADSL2+.

Thanks for any help that could be given

Hi KieranMcb,

This could be a physical line issue, If you can PM 'Slingshot' or Me your account details we can have a look for you.

Cheers,
Joe.

Hi there I am new to this board but need to know if others are getting very unusual performance on slingshot recently with file downloads in the evenings. Both the local and the LAX speedtest indicate that I should be getting a decent download speed ie between 2Mbps and 6 Mbps however the actual download speeds do not tally and have actually become unusable. I am having issues with access to UK pop3 mail accounts, Skype and any file downloads either p2p or direct downloads. My speeds with these downloads are 1-2KBps yes that is 1-2KBps and can often lose connection completely. Skype is now unusable in the evenings but fine in the morning but according to speedtest should be fine. Any ideas welcome.

Thanks

Hi jhaywood,

If you can post up your geographical location and some details about your plan i.e AYCE (Unlimited) etc that will help greatly,

also so screenshots of speedtests and then PM me or Ben (Slingshot) you account details and we can go from there.

Cheers,
Joe.
