I would just leave it until the final if most everything is working. It should only be one more week or so. Seems you are not the only one with an Atmel screen working on 2.3.5 official, but I am still not keen to try the update yet. Happy with miui PT for now.

My Girlfriend has an X5 but has since upgraded to a new device, so I decided I would install ICS and have a play (Currently using an iPhone myself).

Phone was running stock Gingerbread, so took a bit of effort to get it rooted and CWM running properly before I was able to install the new ROM, but got there in the end.

Only issue I have is with the WiFi on my home network. My router at home is running DD-WRT and I am not sure what the problem is, but there is just no throughput when I am connected. It connects no problem, happily gets an IP address and shows a good signal, but no connectivity.

If I connect it to a different access point (Or hotstop on my phone) it works fine, as does mobile data. It's just when connected to my AP at home. Not sure what it is, but it had no problems with the same wireless network when on Gingerbread, and Froyo before that.

Which version of ICS are you running? Is it DZO's? There were some issues with slow wifi on DZO's initially. Have you tried "Use new Wifi driver" under developer settings?

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Yeah it's DZOs. Aurora ICS 3.0 Beta 2 Update 1b (latest)

I think he removed the 'new' WiFi drivers. I don't see this option in Developer settings

Did anything ever happen on the official front? My parents have an Amtel screen and are overall not enjoying the phone much. I installed that first late Dec, early Jan update and then this got pulled. Did they ever release a universally accepted decent update?

B528 was the last rom released by Huawei before they gave up and decided not to fix the gingerbread official rom.
B528 here
Supposed u8800 B528 atmel fix.
I Have not tested either.

At this stage, I would either get on the DZO ICS testing cycle, but your parents may not appreciate beta testing a rom, or downgrading to official 2.2.2 (http://www.mediafire.com/?97oea2bzwy9d2em) and running CyanogenMod 7.2, MIUI 2.4.20 or oxygen. All have .32 kernel and are latest gingerbread and all work very well with even wireless tethering working on CM and MIUI.

Yeah thanks, I just saw that today.
It says it's an unofficial release, despite being offered on their site. I see there have been quite a few 4.0 versions uploaded on the same site, this being the latest one.
Looks good, maybe it has different issues than the current firmware, and hopefully it works with all screen hardwares!

the product is listed as
HUAWEI U8800 pro
Which is different from our X5 which is a
HUAWEI U8800 I thought, even though they reference X5 in the description.

If someone wants to try it on their X5 they can, but, I wouldn't be keen.

Okay thanks guys! They only have the X5 listed, not a "Pro" version on their website..

I won't be trying that one then..
