Does anyone know in practice how much data you would need to use for orcon to trigger their fair use clause on their unlimited plan? 

I'd prefer to stay with telecom but they do not have a UFB offering and there is no indication of when they might do so. 

The orcon speed seems pretty good too.

As far as I know, there is no soft cap on the plan,

As long as you don't try downloading the internet every month you should be fine.


On a side note though, Telecom is meant to be releasing their UFB plans sometime in the next few months.

Cheers for that. I'm not sure about telecom, it could be months or another year. Noone knows so not sure that I want to wait.

I'm not aware of anyone having specified a fair use limit and perhaps Orcon prefer to leave themselves with some flexibility. However, it was pointed out in an earlier discussion on here, that Orcon once had a 1TB plan.

So unless you are somehow abusing the situation (selling access to your neighbours via wifi perhaps) it would seem reasonable to think that "unlimited" is not less than 1TB.

Cheers for that. I'm not sure about telecom, it could be months or another year. Noone knows so not sure that I want to wait. 


iI certainly won't be a year away. Telecom have publically given a rough indication of their launch date timeframes, and there is no indication this won't be happening.

Telecom is in the process of vigorously testing their systems and processes in anticipation of a launch to the public in the next few months.

One of the reasons they have held back is that they want to make sure they have robust processes in place to deal with every conceivable scenario - of which there are many, such as:

New line and fibre
Add fibre to existing line
Move line, remove UBA and add fibre
Inport line from other provider and add fibre

The list goes on, and the process for each of these scenarios has to be carefully thought out to ensure nothing falls over. This all takes time to refine. These processes then have to be taught to all the frontline staff and Telecom has to ensure they have the capability to handle the volume of orders likely to be generated as a result.

So for the above reasons, no exact date for launch has been decided at this point in time (as far as I am aware).
