A few of my rural customers have been getting shifted to Farmside for their Kordia Wireless Extend service through various providers, and subsequently shutdown three months after that.

I note on Orcon site there is no longer any mention of the Rural broadband option. What's happing here, is this only in some area's or is the whole Extend service winding down for good?

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend from $150 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

From what I understand the service is not getting shutdown after three months. I would advise your customers to contact Farmside to clear up any misunderstandings.

Also from what I understand staff are working on getting Kordia Extend customers onto other Farmside/Araneo services.

Cheers

So possibly not getting "shutdown" as such after three months; but ultimately is the Extend service (through Kordia) winding down? I.E. there is obviously a reason for customers being moved to Farmside and also a reason Farmside are looking at alternative Farmside/Araneo services.

I can't comment about it 'winding down', but I think it is hard to get replacement equipment if it breaks.

But Araneo has a far speedier and more reliable nationwide wireless network than Extend, hence the reason for Farmside to utilise it. (plus they are owned by the same company)
I believe some customers can move from the old 1Mbps Kordia plans to Farmside/Araneo 10Mbps quite easily.

Remember Farmside's arsenal of services is not just satellite.

I fix stuff!

Thats my understanding also, but can't comment.

Probably best discussed with Kordia :-)

What will happen to Orcon customers where this is effected; off to Farmside too?

An insider told me 3 years ago that it wouldn't be supported past 2013.  There have been rumours of it being gradually decommissioned this year.  After being on RBI for the past 15 months, I'm very glad to have made the switch.  However, I have to say that nothing matches the reliability of Extend.  It ran like clockwork for the 8 years I was using the service, so hats off to Kordia for their efforts during that time.
