Ah, ok, I haven't needed to create any new database users lately so I haven't noticed any problems there.

So what exactly did they update?

No idea, but they've broken PHP on my site. Can't get anything but a 500 Internal Server Error for any page with a .php extension. If I do a mod_rewrite rule to rewrite .phpa to .php then accessing foo.phpa works fine, so no idea what they've managed to do to it. Haven't got anything but automated replies out of the ticket system for the last week and a half, and nor have I been able to get a big enough chunk of time spare to crawl my way to the front of the phone support queue either.

On an obviously closely related note, is having the domain UDAI sufficient to completely cut ties with Orcon without having to actually get through to someone? Getting close to just going elsewhere (after more than 10 years; was one of the first customers of Kiwi Web Hosting) and pushing for a refund.

That's strange, all of my PHP sites are still working ok.  But then I started off on the iServe platform and not the Kiwi Web Hosting platform.  Maybe they're still separate and something has broken on the Kiwi Web Hosting side of things?

PHP not working is a major problem, so I'd expect them to fix it pretty quick.

Have your domain names UDAI is enough to move the domain name from one registrar to another, but if all you want to do is change your hosting then you don't have to move to a new registrar.  You just need to arrange new hosting and then change the name servers for your domain to point to the new hosting.

On another note, I'm still waiting for my FTP login problem to be fixed...

Our php sites are operating okay but since the update some domain name registrations have changed details and multiple billings for the same domain name has occured (reported and as yet failed to respond - Fire Engine, this is really important and could cause a lot of strife) so check your registrant details are correct before getting your UDAI as it will probably be harder to rectify once you move it.

Yeah I ran into a problem with domain names a few weeks ago. I can't remember exactly what it was but it was something like a totally unrelated domain name appearing in one of my client's IDM accounts. I rang support and they arranged to have it fixed, which is was by the next day.

There's a long standing problem that caused all renewal notifications to stop being sent out, and all domain names were automatically renewing themselves for an extra month when they hit their expiry date. This has been going on for months but in the last week or so they've fixed the renewal notices (I received a heap of them!) but I let one domain name expire this week to see what would happen and it auto renewed itself for another month, so looks like they haven't fixed that particular problem. Since this would directly affect their income (why should anyone pay to renew their domain name when it's going to happen automatically for free!?!) I'm amazed it's taken so long to get around to fixing this. I did tell them about it.

Yes, the renewing domain name problem has been going on for ages (over a year) we've asked repeatedly to have the 'expired' domains taken off but they don't seem to be able to. Glad you got yours fixed - I'll live in hope.

The team tell me this is resolved and they have emailed you to that effect.

That's great, shame they couldn't just fix it when you lodged your initial problem. Hopefully the domain name issue will be sorted soon too.

Yup, all good now thanks.  For anyone who cares, cgi.force_redirect got turned on as part of the update, which is why the phpa redirect worked and the vanilla accesses didn't.

Has anyone else noticed that in iServe's MySQL databases a field set to AUTO_INCREMENT in incrementing by two? So the sequence goes 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, etc.

I noticed that the MySQL server variable "auto increment increment" is set to "2", but I'm not sure why. I've got a ticket in with them asking why, sent on the 27th of July, but haven't had a reply yet.

I've had a few clients ask why their order numbers are only odd numbers and it's rather hard to explain it to them in terms they can understand.
