Hey Guys,

Just wondering how often does Orcon do firmware updates for the, Orcon Genius BLACK?

Also do you guys have full control over our modems?

Regarding frequency of updates I couldn't answer that, however yes we do have remote access to the modems assuming they aren't forwarding all traffic to a firewall or anything silly like that :-)

Short answer: we update firmware when it needs to be updated, which isn't often.  For ADSL, 1201 is fine (which is several years old now).

Just to put ubergeeknz's answer in context:

The Genius Black hardware is stable, the provisioning environment is stable and we have ironed out any issues that have come up that can be resolved with firmware.

The firmware itself has been updated for extra functionality - especially to ease the transition to UFB - but the base ADSL code is stable so unless any security issues or changes in the provisioning environment (i.e. the line drivers in the exchanges and cabinets), come up we are unlikely to make changes and issue updates. It doesn't mean the firmware is outdated as such, it just reflects there are no beneficial changes needing to be made.

Anyone else having issues browsing the Genius Black when using Windows 8/8.1 IE11 or Chrome? My Windows 7 machine with IE11 is fine. There are no config differences between the machines except Windows version and they all use the same switches etc back to the Genius.

Genius1423 is the runtime code.

I should say the problem is that the browser sits waiting and if I leave it for about 2 mins and press ESC the page will display sometimes.

Cheers

Not an issue that I've heard of, be interested to know if anyone else is having problems like this?

Have you tried flushing your DNS????

I have done that when I upgraded to windows 8.1 and my net works like a charm now.  But then again I use Firefox as well. If you haven't flushed it, the please do the following:

Windows Key + X > Command Prompt (Admin)

Type:  ipconfig /flushdns

Hit the enter key.

This should be fast.  When it is complete (it will say something like its sucessfully done or something like that) then type: exit

this will close cmd.

Let me know how it goes for you please :D
