I hopefully have Chorus coming in tomorrow to connect modem to fibre etc. Considering I have had fibre run into house for several weeks and keep getting run around about actually getting t working, I am hopeful that tomorrow will get some action. Just wanted to know which port on the Genius does the CAT6 from the fibre go into. I cannot remember and I bet Chorus wont know

Its the ethernet port right next to the black PSTN port.
The ethernet ports are labelled "1, 2, 3, 4 wired" just below the ports, but you may need to shine a light on it.

Thanks Torch made it all clear. Will the changeover happen once Chorus start up everything or do Orcon have to do something at backend. As its also my phone I don't want to be without connection.

Chorus need to configure the ONT, and Orcon need to have provisioned your services.
Your number needs to be on Orcon's network for VoIP to work, but if you already have Genius VoIP it should be fine in that regard.
Any issues with the install the tech should be in touch with Chorus and/or Orcon.

Update on Fibre install
Chorus arrived and said I was supposed to have a Netgear modem white instead of the Black Genius modem.
After a lot of stuffing around I managed to get Genius reset which of course wiped all my settings and get the Genius up on Fibre but of course its never that easy. Turned out the CAT6 cable was wrongly terminated so new connectors on that and we are up.
I have a question apparently Orcon have sent one of the new Netgear modems is there any advantage to switching to that when it arrives? It would mean I would loose the phone on the Genius and get a gigabit router instead of the Genius 100 Mbit but just not sure if its worth changing everything again now that Genius is working on Fibre

Personally I would checnge it for the Genius White but you are right, you will need to re-setup your WiFi and any special settings and you will have to source a phone handset as there is no "Full" version of the Genius White with a handset as there was with the Genius Black.

Should be able to figure it out myself. Will give it a go tomorrow. It looks as if there are two phone ports on the Netgear so does that mean I can plug two phones into it?

No, the VOIP service is only live on Port 1.

Port 2 is for a second voip line but we don't support a second line. You could however disconnect your house wiring from the ETP and connect your house jackpoints to Port 1 and use phone handsets in any house jackpot....

Interesting thought. I'd I did the house wiring trick I would isolate the Master jack from the street wiring and presumably have to connect the house wires up to make a complete circuit or would they just stay on the jack without the street w iring and work?

Sorry not quite sure I understand. Does each modem have to be provisioned I have the Genius working on Fiber. When the Netcom modem arrives do I have to contact Orcon before I plug it in?, or do I plug it in and it self configures?

The Genius White is pre-configured for fibre, but needs to be "tied" to your account to pull your voice settings

As it was ordered for you it should have been provisioned onto your account so it will pull your account settings down when it connects. PM me your account details and I can check it is all setup ready.
