GTRgod: Yep, still the same for me too. Yet another couple of days of poor international traffic, which only happens during peak evening hours.

It was mentioned that there is no; throttling, data shaping etc. on unlimited fibre plans... but really!?
Well if it actually is a true statement, then maybe it's high time that you need to utilize something so that everyone gets a more stable connection across your network?

I think I might just need to swap to Telecom or Vodafone. My gaming friends still have no such issues on other networks and my Vodafone ADSL used to be fine (actually 10x better international than my current fibre during evenings).

Is there any other orcon plan I can change to, that my gaming doesn't turn horrible on during peak hours? Anyone getting international slowdown on fibre limited plans?
Anyone know if I get out of my 12month contract that I signed up to, if I am being provided with sluggish international evening connection?

Lets have a tracert to wherever you see the issue, we have (as do most ISPs), international data flows to both the US and Oz so I'd need to see which route you are using and where the issue is occurring, the above issue was off our network, obviously ANY throughput issue between your PC and the destination server will limit the throughput you see.

No there is no shaping/throttling on the Orcon network. Your traffic however is still subject to the speed of the slowest step between your PC and the destination. I am not seeing any pervasive reports of International throughput issues so that would indicate it is likely related to your destination or your last-mile circuit to your house. If it is your last-mile then your local traffic would likely be affected too. If related to your destination then it could be remote server, their throttling/throughput/connection quality, or related to the upstream(s) we use or congestion somewhere off our network etc. Tracert will be a great starting point.

FireEngine:
jihadnz: internet is horrible tonight, trying to watch twitchtv , set on mobile quality, still buffering every few seconds :(

Where are you in NZ?

Wigram Skies, Christchurch.

Did send a support ticket (11728546) back in April with tracert data, all I got was a generic "not our problem, its the server you are trying to contacts". However this problem happens over a lot of different mediums, in my case, twitchtv, Diablo, Counter strike.

I've tried sticking this out hoping service would improve, but it's getting to the point where I'm going to switch providers.

In that case we have a 3rd possibility which is the LFC's network - I'll pull up the ticket you quoted and work from there. How is your performance to national, i.e. when you get game/twitch issues at peak what is your speedtest to speedtest.orcon.net.nz?

6pm and lag time :(   Any game is unplayable, might change to another company and cop the fee. Not worth having third world speeds. When I do a speedtest, it randomly pauses when uploading, the pauses last for a few seconds at a time and is the same thing that is happening when gaming.

I'm curious to know what games you're playing?  I've been playing BF4 the past few nights and lag has been pretty bad (No packet loss surprising with my new modem)

Twitch is still very much hit and miss, sometimes will work great for 5 minutes, then just starts buffering... Getting really sick of this.  Always after 7PM for my on UFB

Guys, if you have a problem related to this thread title, please PM me your account number, a speedtest to speedtest.orcon.net.nz and a tracert to a typical server showing the issue.

Without these details I have nothing specific to troubleshoot or investigate.

Thanks in advance....

This failed at 8pm as it wouldn't show anything past stop #3, below is one that I did at 6:30pm. I think this is showing 100% loss rate at the equinox exchange?

Not sure how relevant this is...

Testing using detailed network option on my XBOX ONE gives:

27Mb/s Down, 8-9Mb/s Up with 170 Ping 0% Packet Loss

After about 6-7PM:

20-25Mb/s Down, 0.34Mb/s Up 246-300 Ping 1-5% Packet Loss

Guessing it's testing to a West U.S server?

And whatever you do, log a ticket so you have something to show when you tried to start resolving the problem if you need to bail for somewhere else.

Keep logging tickets till its sorted or you give up.

I've asked for advice, the problem is we don't know where its testing to. I'd be surprised if those speeds were to the US but not surprised at the packet loss, many core routers will discard ping packets en route and without a tracert we can't see where it is occurring (it can occur on ping traffic for instance on our bng's as you can see from tracert's above)
