Hi

Since last night every now and then some webpages will not load and just give me a DNS resolver issue. So far this only happens on google.co.nz, but it can be fixed by flushing my DNS. Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks

Please factory reset your unit and lets troubleshoot from there.

With the issues of a strange device being configured for voip and the confusion that caused this is pretty much the first step you will need to take to make sure your router is configured as we expect.

Also, if you need to, please be frank on when this issue started and what if any other steps/config/devices you have tried before reporting it.

If you still have issues after the factory reset please go to our website, log a ticket through the support page, then post or PM me the ticket number you will automatically receive.

Another factory reset fixed it. Thanks

404 is file not found, generated from the Web server itself. Not a Orcon/Network issue.

Best to contact your webmaster or hosting provider.

You're getting confused with an error 404, that's a page not found.  This is an object not found issue. (And Iserve are the hosting provider, hence posted here with them).

Thanks

Technically the same thing, and not a DNS error, so not the same as the OP's issue.

Please log a fault via your usual Iserve fault process if you want the Iserve technical team to look into it.

This domain is definitely not resolving.  Have logged a fault earlier but as we've had calls outstanding with Iserve for weeks now (some dating back to the 5th of May) I'm hoping for a faster resolution as obviously it's affecting our customer.

You have PM'd me but when I reply I get "Error: This user prefers not to receive private messages"

As Sounddude says, a 404 is produced by the web server so I'm not sure how you conclude it is a DNS resolving issue? Normally this is a file issue on the webspace concerned.

PM me the ticket number(s) you have and I'll gladly look into it Monday.

For reference, from Wiki:

"The 404 or Not Found error message is a HTTP standard response code indicating that the client was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested.

The web site hosting server will typically generate a "404 Not Found" web page when a user attempts to follow a broken or dead link; hence the 404 error is one of the most recognizable errors users can find on the web.[1]"

Hi Fireman

Oh dear, please tell me that Iserve technical aren't relying on Wiki for their support......

This is an old established site.  It hasn't been modified for months.  It is now not serving.  The page we're talking about is the index page.  An index.html won't resolve either.  As nothing has changed our end, what has changed yours to stop this site resolving on your windows server?

Thanks

Call number from yesterday 11858711 - it would be appreciated while you're in there to take a look at all the other outstanding calls under our account.

Thanks.

I too have been having the same issue with google.co.nz and reddit.com
Previously I have been using WXC and this has never been an issue, but on changing to Orcon and UFB on August 8th, it suddenly has become an issue.
I was flushing the DNS each time to resolve it, which would work most times.

Since then I have changed the routers DNS IP's to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and this seems to have resolved the issue for me.

Same thing is happening to me too right now, but don't really want to use Google DNS.

Wonder if the routers dnsmasq service is playing up and serving stale records or no records at all. Perhaps the factory reset is flushing the routers DNS cache?

What if you query the name servers directly with dig/nslookup?

I did a tracert and got this on Orcon DNS2

1 17 ms 1 ms 1 ms Orcon.Home [192.168.1.1]
2 3350 ms 1417 ms 563 ms llu.bng1.nct.orcon.net.nz [60.234.8.1]
3 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms xe-2-2-0.cre1.nct.orcon.net.nz [121.98.9.141]
4 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms dns2.orcon.net.nz [121.98.0.2]

Ping is pretty high lol, I just had to flush the DNS as well.

Gonna try use the Orcon DNS servers directly inside the DHCP settings instead of the routers DNS server.
