I'm having problems sending emails using the SMTP server. It keeps rejecting with a login to server failed. I just got the same complaint from a family member in a different town, so it's unlikely to be a local problem. Apparently this has started happening intermittently yesterday and gotten worse today.

Using TLS on port 465 of mail.orcon.net.nz works with no authentication, but I think that doesn't help when trying to use Orcon's mail server from somewhere outside Orcon's network.

I'm just putting a notice on the website, workaround at the moment is to use webmail. Our systems guys are looking at it but no ETR at the moment.

"Some Orcon mail users will be experiencing issues with their IMAP/POP mail clients authenticating and connecting.

Webmail is currently unaffected and should be used as a workaround. Engineers are investigating, no ETR at this time."
