Ok guys so where do I start, First I just want to say im up very late gaming after my 3rd random drop tonight and I am extremely tierd, I have come searching this little place of wonder for an answer to this frustraiting issue, Ill try my best to explain everything , I have come to my wits end with orcon and their lack of help on this issue. I feel like everytime I ring them im going in circles, no investigation or ticket provides any answer! They have been monitoring my connection for about 2 weeks now and they tell me there is no disconnections on the internet, which I can confirm in my router internet uptime. 

 

 

 

Ok so I am on Orcon Fiber, I have been for about 1 year or more and I am a heavy internet user and rely on a solid connection for the games I play ( lol try telling orcon this, apparently 2-3 disconnections a day is acceptable on their terms ), How ever they say this isnt my issue, This issue started about 2months ago, everyday at times that seem to be reoccurring , a good example of this drop is , Ill be on teamspeak3 and playinga game, i lose connection to server and ts, almost within 5-10 seconds its back up, no logs of downtime but local area network detects no internet, this can happen to everyone using the internet all wired connections 1 wireless laptop. At times it is very strange as one computer doesnt get effected by this issue and remains connected to the same apps like ts and game servers etc, we have ruled out the router as they have sent us a new one. I am a end with this issue, I know that ive done everything right on my end setting up my connections I just need some advice, Please feel free to ask me any questions.

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

 


 

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- If you are rural or urban

 


 

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Just FYI but Chorus repeatedly try and argue that up to 10 actual disconnections is within spec - even for UFB - but that isnt your issue.

PM me your account details and I'll take a look, off the top of my head I would guess you have someone in the house seeding (possibly unintentionally), and the bursts of upload are causing pauses in the other users connections. Obviously that isnt a fault as such but still something you can deal with once known.

Very difficult for T1 to troubleshoot with the internet session staying up but clearly they have been trying hence the modem swap. I would have swapped the modem to rule it out too.

Took a look, yes there is some patchy serious upload (occasional days into the >10GB in a day), best to find what is causing that and limit its bandwidth.

It may just be when that bursts up you see a temp slowdown or server timeout in game connection even though the internet connection is fine and doing its job.

As pointed out by Orcon, with no disconnects on your actual connection it's highly likely you issue exists within your local network, and that's not something that they have no control over.

There have been numerous threads on here in recent months with people complaining about connectivity issues because their upstream is being saturated because they're leaving torrents seeding. This may be yet another instance of this.

With TCP/IP, downloads require sending back upload acknowledge packets to let the server know that you have completed the download and to keep sending more data for you to continue those downloads. If the upstream ack packet is delayed i.e. by congesting your upstream link, then your downloads will slow, or grind to what may appear to be a halt depending on the extent of the upstream bandwidth utilisation.
