Morning or afternoon all,, as it may or may not be when you read this

Not to sure where to ask or how to explain whats going on here

Not so sure what it is that iam trying to work out,, its been so long since ive talked to a ISP

that i don't really know where to start,, or what obligations and responsibility's i have,,

So we live in Hamilton and we are with Orcon fiber thru our mother in laws account

As its her home that that we moved into,, so we just pay the bill.. worked fine for at least the last 3 years

Mother in law has added me to the account as a authorised person

I have had an upgrade around two years ago to 100/50 up/down fiber,, i think that was to help us stay with them as our last contract

had expired,, all up with voip and 10 mins cell phone mins included as a ad on pack we were paying $143.00 a month which at the time seemed a good deal

(Had to check bill,, not easy to understand ,,i think ive made a mistake,, its looking like 139 a month )

So iam at home and mother in law makes one of her rare appearances (Gifts for the grand kids ) and shows me the bill,, saying why do we spend so much on the net

Which is quite the good question ,,, when we started looking around it seemed that there might be better options for us to take,, more so once we decided that we no longer needed the voip deal they where offering ,( Our cell phones where a better reception and we already paid for them monthly as it was ) which made it seem redundant to have that part of the deal

So we made a call to Orcon asking them what we should do as we no longer needed the voip

Wow,,they informed us that we could not change the plan,, as we where not authorized on the plan to change accounts,,,

so i explained that we where,, and after some questions as to who i was,, and our password,, which all passed,, they then put me on hold on to come back 10 mins later saying we could not change the plan

Buy you are not the account holders,, in essence we would have to continue paying the existing bill,  i asked if her yearly contract had expired,,, they said Yes,, a year ago

which sorta meant they we had been paying for a much better plan ,, but only get a b grade plan ,, our plan was for 100/50 and phone-line plus 10 cellphone mins add on pack.. 139 a month,, and for the same price we could have been getting 200/200

so i asked that maybe her plan could be changed to reflect the end of the contract, 200/200 would seem the same price point as what there charging now..

No your not the contract holder,, so anyhow this went around in circles for about 10 mins at least,,, bit maddening :-)

So how or what can we do,, ive spoken with grandma (mother in law ) whos taken off out of the country somewhere,, (The great Oz ) and has txted to let us know that she will be back in about 3- 6 months,,and that we should do what ever is the right thing  as she is on walkabout (Yeap shes differently different )

So what can we do in the meantime.. thinking of just changing to Bigpipe... but don't want to get stuck paying two bills,,, not even sure we can disconnect our present account from Orcon ??

Any suggestions on what or how we should proceed,,id be happy where iam if i wasnt feeling like there ripping her and us off

If the contract was for a year,, and the year is up,, is it ok to just keep charging the same price, would it not reset to some default price for what your getting ,, as times have changed and prices have reflected that

But like i said im such a noob,, have not spoken with isp in ages,,,and i found it hard to communicate with the american speaking asian on the phone line help desk

The line was not so great,, and her and my speech syntax was miles off,, had to keep repeating myself only to misinterpret again and again

Starting thinking she was pranking me  lol

Frustrated and disillusioned ..

Anyhow sorry for the ranting,,if anyone has suggestions please feel free to share

Feel better all ready .. :-)

Have a good day all :-)

Thats how they make money.  Be surprised how many customers that ISP's have that are still paying for legacy accounts but if they switched to a new plan, they could save a lot.

Orcon should have a record of when you were added to the account, and if they do, ask where/when it was requested for you to be removed - if they cant provide anything, then you should be able to make changes.

And I think they rely on the utter fear of calling support to stop you from doing anything about it :)

It truly is a mind-melting experience even trying to get the simplest thing done with Orcons support line...

Changing to Bigpipe was honestly the best move I have ever made, cheaper, faster and the support is decades ahead of what Orcon offer (very responsive online chat from the Bigpipe website and Facebook as well as email, no more bloody phone calls!).

I think the first thing has to be to verify that you really are an authorised person, in other words, is there any kind of documentation, as in a bill or your account details on-line? If so, you can go back to Orcon and tell them they are full of crap (politely, of course). If there is nothing beyond your mother-in-law's verbal say-so, then you have no case and the first step is to get it made official in a way that Orcon recognises.
