Heavens to Betsy!

So I signed up to a Hosted Exchange with Orcon right... In the hope of being able to take my e-mail completely mobile with me over the long weekend and beyond. So on Friday afternoon I call up as I hadnt heard from them since sending in the form and I find out everything was set up, but did anyone bother to send me an email? NOPE.

So the guy on the phone gave me my username and password and told me thats all I needed to know to get going and in an obvious hurry to shut off his workstation and head off to see his family in the Naki or wherever hes from for the weekend he hangs up.

So username and password in tow I easily manage to setup my Outlooks and my Okta with the exchange settings. But when I get to the step to get my emails to come through, thats where the tricky stuff begins... You see, I need either an email address to forward my emails to the exchange server (my preferred option) or I need to change my domains MX records, which will screw a bunch of other sh*tez0rs up (but thats a story for another day!) The problem is:

I wasnt given an alias email address that connects to the exchange server for forwarding, though I have tried millions of guesses ranging from my.name.domain.co.nz@mail.hosted.orcon.net.nz to myname_domain@hosted.orcon.net.nz and everything in between. But to no avail!

So then I think... Ill try changing the MX records! Only prob is - they didnt give me any!!! And theyre nowhere to be found on the website.

Orcon are a bunch of sadguys when it comes to their corporate support - Residential support is open over the long weekend, and I feel ripped off as a corporate customer that I cant get the same level of support.

So guys... any help, advice, settings or whatnot that can get me on my way???

Cheers in advance!

Try pinging the exchange server
The result is probably the ip address for the mx records. I would assume its running on the same server machine.

It still sounds like you need to contact Orcon support because in my experience, I've found that shared hosting typically requires you to forward mail to the domain directly. They'll usually provide a detailed explaination of what you need to do and how to set up outlook.

I've found a tutorial, from this page - but its useless if it hasn't been set up correctly.

Personally, I'd go back to Orcon support and ensure that both parties are aware of what needs to be done.
