Hi, Just wondering how many of you have requested to terminate your contract and been offered a better offer as an enticement. I used to do it regularly in the UK, most times with success. If you have been sucessful what can I expect to be offered? Cheers in advance. Ally

Margens are so low in NZ when it comes to broadband that providers are often in no position to offer a better offer for you to stay - for them to do so, it'll often cost them to keep you.

Probably depends how long you have been with them and what plan you were on.

Sometimes they introduce newer better plans and dont automatically migrate customers - so I guess you always have the possibility of picking up a better plan. Also, there are a few that like term contracts - they can cut you some 'discount' or incentives (a month or so free)  if you sign your life away for a year or two.

Personally I really dislike term contracts and prefer a supplier that doesnt have them. Treat me right and I will stay - muck me about too much and I will leave.

I was with Vodafone a while back and wanted some extra services, was going to be charged $160 for it.... found Voyager could do same deal for $99. Advised V/fone of this and they came back with $120. At the time money talked, so I moved over to Voyager.

There is the whole margins thing etc, but it shows how big the margin was if they were willing to knock $40 off a month to keep me.....

Ah yes there is some cases when you're paying more than you should :) It sounds like you were getting absolutely ripped off @xpd.

There are some no cost services that they charge heaps for because they can, like static IPs. If they think you will leave because of that and you have a decent other spend with them they will usually comp things like IPs, mailboxes and similar. But the connection and the data usage they make so little on (probably lose if you are a heavy user of it) so dont expect movement there.

Static IP was main thing I was after at the time, they wanted something like $30 a month for it.....  I got it for a one off fee ($14.95 IIRC) with Voyager.

I seem to have one anyway with voyager, but having other issues with the connection that may or may not be them so will be moving if it is them since its no contract.
