I recently signed up to Orcon, with the 100/20 unlimited deal (with landline) through "glimp" and the cutover date is set at the end of the month. I have a few questions hopefully someone here would be able to answer.

 

- Does the current ONT box stay, or do Orcon replace this? I'm currently with MyRepublic, but the ONT has "Chorus" on it, model 200, and a label saying "please do not remove from this property".

 

- My phone line currently comes out of the ONT, is this going to remain the same with Orcon, or do they unable to provision it in this manner?

 

- The router provided is a NF4V, and looks pretty much identical to a Huawei HG659 which I am using as an access point. This router did not handle the devices I had connected to it as well as the routing role, which is why it is now just an access point for the solitary 802.11ac device I have currently. I'm predicting this NF4V will likely result in the same fail so I was hoping that it would be possible to get a different router and use that, or even just use my current setup and just change the WAN setting on the router.

 

-Any other tips would be welcomed.

In 99.9% of cases yes, you use the same ONT. (I see from your old posts you live in Auckland, if you're still there then it's 100% yes.)

 

No, your phone will come from your router instead.

 

You can replace the router if one of your own if you like, but might need a bit of work to get the phone working as well.

Do you know how they do this, or whether the ONT is capable of being configured to provide the phone line with a different ISP? Is it even possible for a home user to log into it?

 

I think it is cool that the voice service does not rely on the router/ata box, and I don't see why other ISP's would not want to do the same.

This totally depends on the service your RSP wishes to provide.

 

Orcon built into their stack VoIP from the RGW back when they had the black thing with the phone addon, as such it makes sense for them to stick with this sort of setup

They have to pay to use the ont ports. Router is free and they manage it the same across all access whereas the voice on different fiber cos is different provisioning and that doesn't get them a service to run over dsl lines like a router based platform does.
