Orcon are blocking .mp4 (say goodbye to itunes podcasts), .flv (say goodbye to youtube), and .avi (say goodbye to bittorrent)

I've created a randomly generated 2MB file - hosted in the USA for people to download.

http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.mp4
http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.avi
http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.flv
http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.wav
http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.zip
http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.tgz
http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.exe

The first three are 4KB/sec - the latter four are at fullspeed. I am using wget for testing. Obviously this only applies to Orcon customers - but other users please try as well.

Good one Orcon. Keep up the good work!

Im with Orcon (Max/128k) - RedKea is right.

avi, mp4 and flv downloads are slow (to the point of failure in the case of the AVI, 33 and 32 MINUTES !!! for the flv and mp4 files)

Wav, exe, zip and tgz all flew through (12, 11, 10, 12 seconds respectively)

Image here as proof
Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us

Someone from orcon needs to acknolwedge this as a file blocking issue, cause this aint a bandwith issue.
I now know why certain podcasts dont work (LOST One uses mp4)

I'm on Orcon too and its extremely sub-optimal
1 hour 15 minutes estimated time to download the first file.
but the .exe downloads at 388kbytes per second

Webrowsing speeds are OK but pretty much everything else is extremely sub-optimal and getting worse.
I've changed the cabling here for a 1db improvment in S/N and attenutation but its still extremely sub-optimal.
The FLV download speeds explain the extremely sub-optimal youtube performance :-(

Folks, I'd like you to stop with this "suckage".

If you want respect you have to give respect. It's R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

"Crap" and "Suck" is not the kind of words I want here.

Next people to use those in this discussion are banned and this is locked. Someone asked for the stick, here it is.

Don't do it again.

I'm on the Orcon unlimited plan max down 128kb up, got at least 90kb/s for each file no matter the extension

I did experience similar issues with .rar files previously but they have come right

I too am on the Orcon Homeline Promo thing, and got speeds similar to yours.
I wonder if there is an issue their. Its interesting that the three of us who all have the same issue with the speeds are all on the same Orcon Homeline Promo plan.

I'm on one of the old 15gb data with autosense plans and have the speed issues as well.
Is there anyone on one of the new LLU plans having the same speed vs filename issues ?

Im also on the 20gb promo plan  fs/fs
downloading at

Slow: 4-5KB/s
mp4
avi
flv

Fast: 100-200KB/s
wav
zip
gtar
exe

For me orcon have been a great provider untill 2 weeks ago. Then the day of reconnects and finally a stable connection but my downstream is now roughly half of what I have come to expect.
I could extend the period of grace I will give orcon before I switch providers if they would just give more details about what they are doing to fix it, updates etc via thier website.
The lack of communication certainly does not make one feel like a valued customer.

http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.mp4 - 220
http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.avi - 26, increased to 80ish
http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.flv - 30, increased to 130ish

http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.tgz - 60, increased to 100ish
http://g33kbomb.com/orcon_respect.exe - 100

Just a side note, those are all observations from watching the FF(3) download manager run.

Rather interesting results... the firnt download is almost contrary to what everyone else is saying. o.O

advanced 40 plan i believe im on, some older plan.

Meant to be max up/down iirc, maybe max down/128 up.

-Goodie

Edit: also of note, was that i did have a bumby patch with my connection, where my speeds where abismal, but they now appear to be somewhat back, and my torrents are again, running with some degree of speed.
