Hi,

I decided to move from Orcon ADSL service to ADSL 2+ service...

I ordered by ADSL2+ service in early July, got a date for provisioning July 7 withich then turned bout to be July 17.
So July 17 comes along, and I lose the phone line and DSL connection for a few hours as expected - but havent been able to connect since then... its now evening of 18th and I have just been informed that a technician will be available 3PM on 22nd Jul !

Interestingly the DSL download speed is now  1984kbps  - when I first got Broadbank in 2002 I had 7mbs - and it was duly downgraded to 4mbps - now its < 2mbps..... H'mmm

I am still using my M1122 Modem which I am told will work fine on ADSL2+ but that I wont get ADSL2+ speeds...

Is this outage for 6 days "normal" ?

Frustrated..

that is disgraceful, 5-6 days without a phone, let alone broadband. Not acceptable in my books.

I would also invest in a adsl2+ modem!

Yeah that is pretty poor. Did they explain what was going on, and why it went down without your new connection being hooked up?

Dan is right, get yourself an ADSL2+ modem to take advantage of the higher speeds! Otherwise it's like driving a Ferrari down a never ending one way street with speed bumps every 50 metres! Yell

I'd be asking them about compensation or at a credit at least.

I use the Linksys AM300 modem. It's basic and cheapish, but is a good quality ADSL2+ modem.

At least you can get ADSL2+

I got this wonderful letter in the mail which said 'The telephone exchange in your area has recently been unbundled. Which means we can now offer you services using our own next generation' technology, instead of someone else's.'

Well that sounded good so I checked on the Orcon website and punched in my phone number only to get 'We are currently unable to deliver the Orcon+ Network (LLU) to your home'

Great, so I called Orcon and they checked again using my street address, only to confirm that I can't get ADSL2+

So I guess that's how Orcon 'do things differently' as they claim.

Phone line now has significant issues.. unable to get dial tone, intermittently unable to ring to it,  and when we can can dial tone, unable to be heard at the other end...

I have spoken to Orcon several more times.... sympathy - but thats all - comments like

...My phone line was also down for 6 days.... (doesnt inspire confidence)
...You might be too far from the exchange (no we are actually in the same block..
...Oh in that case you may be too close to the exchange....

Technician remains booked for tomorrow... somehow I dont feel confident that it will be resolved tomorrow...
