Auckland Speedtest

Christchurch Speedtest

Australia

California

I'm based in Christchurch.

So to cut your story short, you have excellent speeds around the world, yet your bit torrent downloads are slow?

You might want to read this.

This has nothing to do with bit torrent, I haven't used torrents in years and I sure wouldn't start again now on Orcon.  Using direct HTTP links not peer-to-peer.  Ping to Australia shouldn't be over 200, New Zealand speeds are perfectly fine.  International is a complete joke, those tests were at the best of times, I can't even download 1 file at the same time as streaming music and being on a game without it lagging terribly.

My speeds may be excellent compared to others, but this is a 2/3 drop in speed over the past month for me for most parts.  Download at 1200kbs down to 150kbs, ping in programs up from 100's to 200-400's at worst and not the mention the fact a ping to Australia shouldn't be higher then to the US.

I would say your DL and ping speed to California are extremely good!   Getting sub 200 ping is decent, 150? Thats very good,  I have been playing online games down under for 10 years and rarely did I see ping to CA under 200.

300ping to Oz sucks yeah.

S

EDIT: Added speed test which I personally think is very good indeed, 135ping to LA?  I wish I'd had that when I was an EQ junkie =/

you guys are full of sh**

Those tests are fine.

Pings are fine, speeds are fine, and according to Orcon an upgrade will fix anything remaining. Stop blaming your ISP and fix your stuff.

If you can't fix it with your gear, move house.

*Note- DSL links to exchange at 4.1Mbps

What was your IP address at the time these were taken? I can get it looked into. The high ping to Australia is not normal.

Hi,

My ip adress is 60.234.145.4, hasn't changed since I've been with Orcon I'm just wondering what your guys normal connection speeds are when its working properly for you.  For example your router connection rate and speedtest for a normal test.  Mine are as follows.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 11389 kbps 991 kbps
Line Attenuation 26 db 6 db
Noise Margin 11 db 11 db

But to my surprise its actually working properly now...although I doubt it will be later in the day.

Would be interested in getting other peoples speeds at the moment before 12pm hits.

Firstly, you're right I was not playing nice, apologies all.

Secondly, another member who rants and raves but wont do anything proactive to fix his problem didn't like it when I told him to stop being a b***h and told me to stop being an ass- perhaps it was you? Two wrongs don't make a right, and he was asking for it.

Thirdly, all the threads and posts in the world are not going to fix you issue or convince people not to join Orcon- They are the fastest ISP in the country, won ISP on the year 2006 & 2007, won Telco of the year 2008, voted best customer service by Epitiro and NZ Herald, and they've just upgraded their international bandwidth again.

They undercut Telecom, give free phone features like voicemail, have cheap data, lend you free modems, and don't tie you into contracts.

They got rid of their shaped plan, don't run any torrent plans, and their staff seem to know more than the clowns I talked to at Xtra, iHug or Slingshot.

-It's obvious, they are the best.

Athlonite, you've been whining in this  thread for so long now, there is no way that Orcon would have a fault report for your connection all this time and not have done something about it. I don't think anyone would believe that.

Personally I'm only trying to discuss this with other people in this thread who have issues.  Which seems to be the majority.

Well I wouldn't called it Accurate, but you could see if your suburb is located on http://hwiki.digitalsouth.net.nz/broadband/exchange_locations then take a guess.

I'm 1km or just under 1km from my exchange and my line stats are
Line Attenuation 26 db 6 db
Noise Margin 12 db 12 db
Maybe you could tell comparing to yours although this would be greatly effected upon your house wiring, router, etc
