Hi there,
I'm wondering if anyone from Orcon can answer this.
When is ADSL 2 going to be available in the Birkenhead area?
I'm stunned it's still not here!
I'm pretty sure the rest of the North Shore and Auckland is already completed.
Perhaps there is a particular technical reason we're still in the dark ages?! Cry

Thanks

Matt

I live in Bishopgate off Salisbury (More Birkdale) and when I plug my number in the orcon website it says unavailable.
However Telecom offer adsl2. I've checked...

Do Orcon mean their unbundled Orcon+ product?

They mean their unbundled Orcon+ service is unavailable. And only the 'Traditional' Orcon offering is at the moment.

You don't need to be unbundled to get ADSL2+.  If Orcon doesn't offer this on their regular plans and Telecom does then you should change ISP.  Or hassle Orcon to get with the program, they only onselling the wholesale product anyway (which is ADSL2+).

P.S. I loved how you called your house "Birkenhead" in the subject, then had to qualify it later as "more Birkdale".  It's totally Birkdale, man!  Be proud, not ashamed! Laughing BTW, the Birkenhead exchange is unbundled, but you're nowhere near it...

Hey Bazzer, I called it Birkenhead in the header cos I thought we all ran off the one exchange in this area. And it might be easier for non locals to know where I am. Really! Tongue out

I'm actually more after the unbundled services from Orcon (or someone else) though. And as everyone is at the moment I'm trying to save money where ever I can. So if we can ditch Telecom for our landline and bundle it with Internet we'll save something.

I have a friend using Xnet for phone and data so am considering switching to them. Unless Orcon can offer something similar.

PS: If I was REALLY ashamed of living in Birkdale I would have called my area 'Birkenhead North' - you see a few real estate ads like that. Frown

I bet.  Probably all you can do is sign up to the Orcon page that will let you know when Orcon+ is available in your area.  Otherwise, Vodafone's Red network is available there.  You could try them, or maybe that's indicative that Orcon+ won't be far away?
