there,





I'm trying to help sort out my sisters internet connection problems with Orcon
that have been going on since early January. I was staying with them for a
while and was here when they signed up with Orcon late last year and the first
6 weeks or so it was great, really fast (like 12mbs download speeds on
speedtest) and very stable. Basically everything you would expect from ADSL2+. That
all changed around early January and it's been rubbish ever since.

I logged
help desk calls back in Feb and ran the software they sent out etc. I had to
chase them for weeks and got no answers or resolution. I eventually moved and
left it to my sister and her family to try and sort, but it doesn't look like
they have gotten very far either. In fact now it's even worse as it's not just
slow speeds, but the connection keeps dropping every hour or so.





Below are the modem stats. They are currently getting 2mbs download speeds max
at any time of the day. I'm no major techo, although I've learnt a lot from
reading on here over the last few months, but need some suggestions as to what
to try next because dealing with the Orcon help desk has been waist of 3
months!

Your line is only syncing at 4mbit, so chances are you have a line fault. A line fault would be the major cause of your drop offs.

Are you on Orcon or Orcon+?

I too have seen a ridiculous drop in rates in the last few months.

I've gone from the usual 7xxxkbps connection to 5xxxkbps, now down to 2xxxkbps, yesterday my down sync rate was a shocking 1xxxkpbs

I've lodged a fault complaint with Orcon about 2 weeks ago, but they won't even answer my emails any more.

I've had my share of issues with Orcon in the past (connection down for like a week, their fault), but the concerning part is I've just bought more bandwidth with them.  So they don't even seem keen to help out customers who aren't purchasing the bare minimum.

Is there any chance this is something on my end?  No wiring has changed, no phones added, and the modem has stayed exactly the same (I've done the obligatory port reset and modem resets).

Should I just leave Orcon and go to Vodafone for their mySKI + broadband package?

Ive gone the other way.... had 10mb connection on Orcon+, and now Ive moved house and on just normal telecom lines with Orcon and get 12mb :)

@KiwiNZL - any chance youve been put onto a cabinet ? If you were getting good connection rates then drop to 1/2mbps, it can be a sign youve been moved to a local cabinet - you'd have to call Orcon to get that sorted.
