I originally used to be able to get over a 1MB/s but these days I struggle to get 400KB/s.

Just wondering if that's unique to me or are other people getting this too?

I've noticed they're extremely slow today. I've been downloading a 8gb game for the last five hours and I'm at 4% lol. Peak download rate 247kbs. Currently downloading at 5.2kbs what a joke.

Maybe the mirror is overloaded? I notice that the content is "sponsored by compulink.co.nz" and a trace route to their website shows they are at Hosting Direct lol. Entry level dedicated server serving all of NZ?

I've been getting pretty much cap speeds over the last few months. They do have the summer  sale going on now so the servers are getting hammered. The New Zealand server seems to have a lot less bandwith than others, so if its slow try another one.

I fix stuff!

We are in the process of applying for our own Steam node.

Will let you know how we get on.

I believe the Affinity (Computalink.co.nz) server was offline this weekend, as it was at Xlan.

Remember folks, this weekend was their summer sale, and Team Fortresss 2 went free. Their servers are under extremely heavy load. Even on TelstraClear I'm not getting much better than this today - I just installed a new Lenovo desktop at home and I'm trying to reinstall Steam. Also got a BF II gift - I will probably just wait until the middle of the week...

What ISP you are on and whether it has good routes/transit to Steam content mirrors are a big factor.

Also the "Summer sale" currently on will naturally be having a big impact.

I'm on Vodafone BB, I find from like 1am till around 4pm it's line speed from steam, after 4PM it drops and peaks around 150KB, while speedtests are still line speed. hmmm

Is the plan to make this part of ozone ?

Steam is always slow in the evenings, try early morning and you should get decent speeds. Also try setting your location to the states/aussie, that can also help sometimes.

Steam summer sale has been awesome :D

DL speeds have been pretty good for me on telecom dsl, even in peak hours, however we have a 5meg sync speed here so its not hard to max out lol

It would be interesting to know how much data people are downloading from steam. And how much is needed for it to be economical for an ISP to host a server.
