Hi all...

Is anyone else having really slow international speed?  All weekend, and late last week, I have not been able to get much more than a few hundred kilobits to international, although up to 15Mb/s locally to Auckland.

Really frustrating, as even hotmail is almost un-usable.  Trademe, Geekzone, Westpac etc, all super quick, but google image search takes 10 to 15 minutes to load one page!

from Orcon Diagnostics just now:

Speedtest Results:-
Auckland,NZ: 2521 / 561 (9ms)
Wellington, NZ: 8110 / 564 (8ms)
Sydney, AU: 802 / 707 (64ms)
San Francisco, CA: 273 / 281 (182ms)
Maidenhead, UK: 160 / 227 (*ms)

Have had lots of variation in these results - generally the international has been between a low of 55 to this which is the highest I have seen of 273.  Usually San Fran is around 110.

If I VPN to my office (in Dunedin) which is on a Telecom Fibre connection, speeds are good to both national and international.

Yes their network is basic a crock of steaming pudding.

I live on Queen Street next to Ames, got told my line was 14/15 down that is acceptable for Auckland Speed Test.

I should be getting 20/22, I was with Telecom in 2009, I questioned them how AMES and my building which are next to each other, have the same street wiring etc etc and yet they are capped with most speeds, I am not.

Got a Email a week later getting told, well actually 3 days I think, less then 5 working days, was impressed, to check my line - sitting at a solid 19/20 down all the time and to West Coast USA about 14/15.

So Orcon installed their own Hardware, people live in the best location probally for internet nearly in the whole of the country, yet cannot get the line capped.

I wonder what excuses it is hmmm... "Your Modem", "Your Ethernet Cable", "Your buildings wiring", "Your home PC", "Your Network Card" etc etc etc.

No self liability towards the fact, their own hardware is not even as good as mainstream Telecom huh?
