Hi there,
After some help please. I am currently getting 2.47Mbps down, 0.84Mbps up with a ping of 47ms. I can sometimes get up to around 3Mbps down but on average it hovers around 2.5.
I am supposed to be inside the Orcon+ network, and I am in Mt Eden.
I was wondering what everyone thinks of these speeds? I am not that impressed. I realise a lot can affect the speed however I was expecting a bit better.
Thoughts?

Probably old wiring. I'm also in Mt Eden, here's my speeds:

You seem to have much better speeds!
Looks like I'm less than one km away from the exchange too.....
When you say "old wiring" what do you mean exactly? Old wiring in our house? I guess that's not an easy fix?

what speed are you connecting with on the modem? can you post the stats from the modem status page?

i'm in mt eden/balmoral, on callplus over telecom wholesale connection. my stats are shown here:

You'll also need to tell us if you're on an Orcon+ plan or a Telecom Wholesale connection, and also look up the www.telecomwholese.co.nz/maps page and tell us if you're on a cabinet or exchange, and if you're on a cabinet when you migrated to it.

Ok, thanks for the help so far.
I checked the website you suggested and it says I am on the service area MOD/Exchange. Status/completed May 2008. I am guessing that this could account for my poor speeds?
I spoke to Orcon today and they tested the line and said it wasn't testing very well and they have logged a fault. Fingers crossed.

Look to get a master VDSL2 splitter installed as close to the Telecom termination point as you can and try to locate your modem there too. House wiring can be a huge issue when it comes to sync speeds.

Ok, here are my stats:
ADSL Line Status:Cable connectedLine mode:ADSL2+Maximum line rate:2860 kbps (downstream) / 1064 kbps (upstream)Noise margin:5.8 dB (downstream) / 7.5 dB (upstream)Line attenuation:24.5 dB (downstream) / 14.3 dB (upstream)Output power:18.2 dBm (downstream) / 12.1 dBm (upstream)
Can someone please help me interpret these?

Hi

You have a very good attenuation rate, but a crap sync speed.

I would try an isolation test. Unplug everything from the phone lines (except the modem) and check your stats. I would also try and find the master jack and plug the modem in there and check the stats.

Failing that, log a fault with the helpdesk and get your line checked out.

With those stats, you should easily be around 10-15mbit.

Alrighty. So i unplugged the phone from the ADSL filter/splitter and speed didn't change.
Took the modem to the only other phone jack in the house and got these speeds:

Looks like something is up with the line?

Yep and look within your house first, most common issue with DSL in NZ, house wiring.
