Athlonite: well thing are still not looking good both of my immediate neighbours are getting roughly 4~5Mbps more than me maybe it's because they're with Telecom for their BB one use's an Netgear DG834g wireless router the other is on an old DSL502
and both are getting way better sync and speedtest results than I am, personally I think this smacks of foul play and dirty dealings...... it just doesn't seem right that two telecom acounts get better than I am with Orcon from the same cabinet

I forget the earlier posts and I'm not going back to look but the wiring from the demarc to your modem plus any other devices you have on the line in your house could be slowing you down compared to your neighbours. I have also seen substantial sync speed differences with different modems too.

I have 1 phone 1 modem router connected via an master filter according to the Chorus tech my lines are pretty damn good so what's the problem

my line stats:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 12833 kbps 964 kbps
Line Attenuation 8 db 0.5 db
Noise Margin 10 db 12 db

next doors:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 17633 kbps 964 kbps
Line Attenuation 8 db 0.5 db
Noise Margin 10 db 12 db

he has an netgear DG834g v3 + 2 phones and I have an netgear DG834 v3 + 1 phone both with the same firmware

The only thing different is he's with telecom for Ph/BB and i'm with orcon for Ph/BB so it certainly looks to be some sort of jiggery pokery going on somewhere that and the fact that for 2 years I had roughly the same 14.8~14.9 Mbps and then 2 weeks befor xmas Chorus do some work and the Ph line and BB turn to sh@t

yup my modem gets the same speed his did on his connection and his only gets 12 Mbps on mine so it's definitely not a modem problem I have also tried an Telecom supplied Thompson modem aswell

WOW without a word from anyone (Orcon or Chorus) my sysnc speed has jumped upwards by quite an considerable amount

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 16644 kbps 964 kbps
Line Attenuation 8 db 0.5 db
Noise Margin 0 db 12 db

Thanks to whoever had a fiddle and fixed it now to see if it stays there for very long

Something is seriously screwed up there. You can't possibly have a 0 dBm noise margin unless something is going totally inaccurate reporting stats.

At this point who cares as long as it stays around where it's sitting now I couldn't give a hoot

noise margin is sitting round 1db now but still at 16.6Mbps

The problem is that's not actually possible. Chorus run their ISAM's with a 12 dB noise margin. If you're seeing 1 dB there is still clearly a problem. it might seem stable to you but the reality is that if that's not a simple case of the modem misreporting the noise margin you will continue to have problems.
