Hey everyone, I am planning on changing to Telecom, with better data options avalible for the same price.

However, we have an email address with orcon ( @orcon.net.nz ) and so what are our options for keeping this email address? I have read that we can pay a small fee, or maybe get the mail fordwarded?

Thanks

Hey Liam,

Firstly, sorry to hear that you're considering leaving us! Is there anything I can do that would encourage you to stay on board?

Our @orcon.net.nz email addresses are provided free for life, so you can continue using them even if you change providers.

Cheers,

Cam

Hi there, thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, I can get a plan with larger data for a similar or lower price with Telecom. Orcon has been good, but my I need more data

Thanks

Indeed, i transferred from Orcon for this reason - not to Telecom tho, and have been changing some customers as well, bit of a shame really.

My wife was able to keep her orcon address after we moved for free.

Maybe time for a refresh on packages? What plan were you on, are you moving to? I'm with Orcon and I haven't done any research but I think I have a pretty good deal already. Always keen to move to a better deal though! ;)

I was on a Orcon Silver+ 5GB +100GB Addon LLU PLan, it was just over 163$ a month  (not Genius - proper landline)

I changed to Vodafones Red network, 60+60GB Plan, + Caller ID addon, for 127$ per month

the only thing i have lost changing from Orcon is a static ip which i dont really need anyway

I have gained +15GB Per month, +Saving 35$ a month +No overage charges on Vodafone when i go over, compared to Orcons 2$ per GB, which was initally 1$ per GB when i signed to the plan.

It was really a no brainer to change,

I would have stayed with Orcon if their prices were more competitive,  i was with them for over 3 years and i put alot of customers onto their LLU Plans.

Sorry Orcon!

Yeah, the prices are a bit high, and with telecom I can have the option to just shockingly slow speed or $2 per gb over, I like that.

The only reason we joined Orcon was because my dad was told they are the only ISP that worked with macs ??????

Anyway thanks for the help!

Any thoughts on Slingshot? Looking at their plans and they look really nice.

Sorry for the repeat posts, but I have heard that the unlimited plans are slower than the capped plans, is this true? Thanks

It can be at times, I'm on this plan and get line rates to NZ based servers any time of the day, International is slower however I would expected it.

Just my 2 cents, I signed up to the Total Home Broadband package on Sunday and on the online form it asked me for a preferred switch over date. I supplied a date that will be my last day with Orcon, but when I get the email from Telecom, it was wrong (almost 4 weeks before my preferred date). So I email them back and it took them a few rounds to get it right.

By the way, from the email I got from them, they don't do switch over every day. So, it pays to check those emails/details carefully. In the end, I asked them to switch over a few days before my last (invoice) day with Orcon.

I hope this helps.

Isn't it a shame that Orcon always wait until someone is leaving, really, really irate or posts on Geekzone to actually see if they can provide some customer service.  The corporate shrug of the shoulder approach just doesn't work guys.

Interestingly enough, Orcon sent me one of of their "How are we doing?" feedback emails, and in the feedback I mentioned how Orcon's non-genius plans had become less than competitive. The very next day after submitting my feedback, I get a call from Orcon's sales team, offering to cut me a deal that saves me $35 a month, making them cheaper than Telecom.

Thumbs up to Orcon for actually reading my feedback, I'm hoping they update their "public" plans before more users jump ship.
