goodiesguy: A little off topic, but does anyone know if Triangle TV or CueTV will be on FreeviewHD in the near future? (i'm in dunners by the way [dunedin for you slowpokes]).

Stratos won't be back on terrestrial Freeview until there is a change in government.

Cue TV probably won't be on terrestrial Freeview in the near future, if ever.

Can you explain your Stratos statement?  I'm not sure if you mean that other governments are more willing to give away tax payers money to prop up private businesses, or if you are referring to freeview cost structures etc?

I was referring to Freeview cost structue. The current government doesn't seem interested in changing anything for non-commercial channels.

Up now in Masterton (JDA - Popoiti). I can see why you guys are complaining about picture quality.
Here is a picture:

The graphic in the corner of the screen is a fuzzy as a dog!

Yeah, the picture quality is garbage. Hopefully it improves when it launches.

Makes you wonder why they aren't showing high quality promos now to hook viewers.

Who's likely to tune in after watching these promos that look worse than old school analogue broadcasts ?

I had a quick look at it this afternoon, and compared to other SD channels the picture quality looked OK. That's from the Auckland, Waiatarua transmitter.

To be honest, I would see a slightly fuzzy channel logo as an advantage - it's far less distracting.

The only problem being that it isn't just slightly fuzzy. The resolution of what is being transmitted looks like D1-CIF, 384x288. Looks like something sampled from composite out from an old VCR.

My Tivo in Nelson messaged me to say it had found ChoiceTV... now it's gone!
That was short lived.

From  http://www.throng.co.nz/2012/04/choice-tv-launching-april-28-on-freeview-channel-12/#more-50157 :

"For viewers outside the range of Kordia transmitters Choice TV is currently negotiating to broadcast via a satellite channel."

Since there's no mention of JDA on that page it makes me wonder whether that's true, or whether someone saw that it's coming to JDA and thought that meant satellite.

There was a reference on their Facebook page that the JDA contract was "on the desk". I thought JDA was a done deal, and this is the first time I have seen satellite mentioned - although as you say it could be a mistake.

I think the Throng article may have just ignored the JDA situation.
ChoiceTV confirmed to me over twitter that it would be launched on the 28th April in Nelson which is a JDA region and I think some other Geekzoners in JDA regions are already seeing the channel.

Hmm, Choice TV did confirm on the Freeview NZ Facebook Page that infill sites operated by JDA will get the Choice TV signal

If you know you are in a UHF area and don't have any signals up, Suggest you retune your channel using blind scans, you might not have a approved receiver getting some of the channels on offer.

If they were negotiating a satellite channel they should of sorted it by now as it has been a few months after STRATOS EPG and data was taken down from Kordia,
