crackrdbycracku: Has anybody actually watched the channel?

If anybody had asked me five years ago:

Which TV channel do you think will completely redefine how ANZAC Day is covered and thereby completely change the way all channels approach ANZAC Day?

Well, my answer would not have been Maori TV, that's for sure.

Is it at all possible we give them a chance before we throw them to the lions?

Ha Ha Ha I was brought up religious, ive had all their propaganda pumped into me since i was a baby, the hypocrites have had many chances and failed,

I can see it now. Anzac day - a sign of the end times. Where there's a will theres's a way. Doomed, all doomed.

I'm not religious at all, but how about we just let people watch what people want to watch. If you don't like it, don't watch it. Live and let live and don't discriminate on other people's beliefs...

Oncop53: On a related note, is it possible to delete or skip channels on an official freeview box? I can't figure out how to do this on the Homecast HT9200DTR.

Well you can on the warehouse one, and the FV built into my samsungs.

that's how I dealt with the chinese channels and the horse one. Just another to delete after autoscanning here.

Oncop53: On a related note...

On an unrelated note, I was wondering: does your user name derive from the tumour-suppressor?

Yes good spotting, I normally format it like this: onco_p53 so it is more obvious, but GeekZone did not allow underscores in usernames when I signed up. It was a bit embarrassing when I won a prize at one of the Pizza meet events and Mauricio read my name as “on Cop 53”, I had never thought of it that way before…

More detail here for those non-molecular-biologists in the forum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Onco_p53

I don't necessarily have a problem with anything being broadcast unless it takes up precious bandwidth that could be used for something of wider appeal, but that could be argued for the +1 channels, Trackside, Parliament or Te Reo since it has more hours off air than on air.

But I do have questions on Firstlight's effects to the regional broadcasters.

I get Tararua TV, which is tuned in, if not often watched, as about the only thing it has that is watchable is rebroadcasting DW, and I get DW off Asiasat3S anyway. A lot of Tararua TV is rebroadcasting the religious channels that are available on Optus D2.

What is going to become of Tararua TV and the other regionals who do rebroadcasting more than any original programming? (IMHO Tararua TV is not a shade on Cue. Cue does a really good job, with some worthwhile stuff.) Firstlight are going to rebroadcast Hope channel and others too. So what possible role would Tararua TV have in the future? They're about to have all (both?) of their viewers taken by the new channel.

And what is the point of the regional UHF channels with the digital switchover anyway? Are they all going to die? Anyone involved in a regional broadcaster; what are your plans?

And why are Firstlight bothering at all? Surely anyone who actually wants religious TV can get the plethora of religious channels on Optus D2 on the same dish, but separate LNB from Freeview and Sky on D1.

I had a bit of a think at http://extra-channels.com/2012/05/26/how-i-would-do-nz-public-broadcasting/ and I would hope for a role for regional TV, but it should be representative of the regional communities as a whole, and not just for the religious minority to give us more of the stuff that we are already oversupplied with.

Lastly, Firstlight would surely be a reference to the cosmic background microwave radiation, and the physical evidence for the big bang theory after the inflaton field went all inflatory on us.

I dont have a problem with a religious program on Freeview UHF.  It is 1 program on UHF.  You have Shine on Satellite.  Yes someone here will say they get Shine on UHF in Auckland on Sky Tower but that is like a regional one and not on the actual Freeview platform for the country.
If you dont like the religious channels dont watch. You can delete it from your channel line up.  I have dont that with the chinese ones.  I cant understand chinese so no point in watching and the channel 9 in chinese with english subtitles, well I cant try reading the captions and seeing what is going on at same time so I dont watch them.  Freeview = Free choice

Nope.
If you see the thread in the same forum you found this one, you'd see that TVNZ7 has become TV ONE+1
