Hi
I have a Samsung laptop running Windows 7, 64bit.
I am looking at using the Windows Media Centre to record programs and my laptop needs a TV tuner.  From what I have gathered is a USB dual tuner stick would be the way to go.
Can anyone advise me on a good one that will work?

Tried a Dish TV (two actually) and these did not work successfully with the TV and I have lost confidence in the product.
I just want to be able to record TV programmes while I am not at home or while watching another channel.
Also if anyone has any thoughts on using the Window Media Centre - I would appreciate any advice.
Thanks

I run Win7 Media Centre as my main recorder in the lounge.

Recently purchased an HDHomerun from nicegear.co.nz = Awesome product.

The easiest tuner I've ever setup for Media Centre...

1: Plug tuner into network
2: Run install CD
3: Configure tuner in media centre

Done.

Ask Hads at nicegear about an improved TV Guide source while you're there

I bought a Kaiser Baas dual TV stick today and the setup was easy but two salespeople from JB Hifi told me it would record a program from sleep/standby mode.  This is not the case as I tested the programming this afternoon.  So will be returning this product.

I didn't want to leave my laptop on for hours until the program starts.  These sticks would only work if your laptop/computer is on.

So still stuck with how to record TV now my video player is dead.

Unless you can get the PVR software on your PC to wake it from suspend before it is due to record you're stuck with leaving the machine on all the time.

The tuner won't record TV by itself, but a PC can record TV using a tuner like the HDHomeRun. It's all a question of the recording software that you choose to run on the PC to do the recording.

I contacted Kaiser Baas about the Network TV Tuner a few weeks ago - it's not currently available in NZ for some reason.

Nicegear.co.nz seem to be the only official stockists at present.

The tuner doesn't record TV, the software on your PC does.

As for the Kaiser Baas unit that you want to return, what software were you using? The software controls your machine coming in and out of sleep mode, not the tuner. If you were using Windows Media Center and this wasn't happening you'll need to check your PC settings - it isn't the fault of the USB stick.
