I have search around and there hasn't been much discussion on Comskip for a year or so. I have got an Ubuntu 12.04 headless server with a DVB-S tuner card feeding into TVHeadend. This is happily recording shows (to MKV). I then have XBMC (running on a couple of Raspberry Pis) consuming these recordings.

I came across Comskip and have managed to get it installed on my server (there is now a Linux version, whereas previously it was Windows only). I can process the files generated by TVHeadend either manually or via a post-processing script configured in TVHeadend. This generates an EDL file in the same directory as the recording.

However when I stream the recording via XBMC I don't get any commercial skipping. I am guessing XBMC is not able to detect/use the EDL file, since this is a streaming service from TVHeadend - i.e. XBMC is consuming a stream not a raw file.

Just wondering if anyone else has had any luck with this type of setup?

I have read a bit on the XBMC/TVHeadend forums but again there isn't much discussion about Comskip. Some mention there needed to be a change to XBMC PVR API to allow the EDL file to be included in the stream, and that this change had been made, but I am not sure if the TVHeadend AddOn has been updated to use this new API.

A bit of a long shot I know, but thought I would throw it out there on the off chance someone else has got this working!

to my knowledge the API change wasnt merged for frodo final (might not even be merged now).

NextPVR is in the same boat, it uses HTTP streaming for live tv/recordings so it needs this API change to send the edl comskip file as well.
