We bought my mother-in-law a Panasonic Freeview recorder (the one that can record two programmes at once).  She has had problems with the series link where sometimes a programme just simply does not record but now we have a new problem - if we series link a programme on channels 1, 2 or 3 it also series links it on the plus one channels which has led to recording conflicts.  If we delete the recording for the plus one channel it deletes it for the normal channel as well.  We haven't noticed this issue previously.  We have MySky and if we series link on that it only series links on that channel - not the plus one as well.  We can't see how to fix this problem and of course we can't ring Panasonic until Tuesday so I was hoping someone here might know something.  We did consider deleting the plus one channels as a last resort as she does not use them but we could not figure out how to delete them.  Thanks.

It's a known issue that Panasonic don't seem to care about - or blame Freeview for it.

If you have any luck with them, please advise here. Otherwise all you can do it set recordings manually, not by the EPG.

I don't think you can remove a channel from the EPG, or renumber it.  But if it can be done I'm sure someone here will say how.

Sorry, not much help.  This aside though it's a good unit in just about every other way.

You cannot remove a channel but you can hide it. Press setup select Digital TV Tuning then Channel list, select the channel, press OK to hide. You should find this in the Manual under “Changing the unit’s settings”.

We hid it but unfortunately the double series links were still there.

Thanks ADKM. It's a bit concerning to think Panasonic may not be able to help. My mother-in-law is 86 and we really had to convince her to buy this unit when the Freeview change happened and now we feel guilty that it's not working properly. She is unable/unwilling to learn how to do anything other that view recordings so we have to set up all her recordings in advance which is why the series link has been so fantastic. I kind of wish we had pushed harder and got her to go with MySky. I find MySky a lot easier to navigate and that's despite us having owned a Panasonic HDD recorder for several years.

Just ignore that it won't record a hidden channel, press PROG/CHECK to see schedule. I do this with my panasonic recorder and have no problem.

I've noticed on my Panasonic BWT720 that when a programme is set to record using series linked that the +1 channel also shows it as set to record (when checking with the Check function). However it always records the selected programme and never the +1 programme. I've never had any conflicts due to the +1 indicating set to record.

Edit
If you are getting conflicts then just use timer programme setting instead. This also gets around the problem of back to back series not continuing to record all programmes

Thank you both. We'll check it out next time we are around there.

Is this the 390 model that retails for $399. I series link everything and if this is a problem on that model - don't think I'll be buying it...

I think we paid around $500 and I think it's the DMR-XW390 model.  We're going to see her later today and she had several shows series linked last night on TV1 so we'll see if they recorded on the Plus 1 channel as well.

I'll be waiting with baited breath. Sounds like a pretty major glitch to be fair / I wonder if you could return it?

Thanks for pointing out the Prog/Check button - never knew what it was for. We had a look at it today and sure enough even though on the EPG it looks like the Plus 1 channels are going to record on the actual record list they are not so she's not double recording. Also using the Prog/Check button we were able to see all her failed recordings. Unfortunately the information button did not give a reason why they failed other than they failed to record. Another thing I like about MySky - they give a more detailed reason for failed recordings although they very rarely happen.

Just thought of another reason. If you turn the recorder off will it still record scheduled recordings? I think on MySky if you turn it off it won't record but on our Panasonic HDD recorder if we programme something it does record when we turn it off.

Yes, it still records when turned off (in standby mode) but not of course if switched off at the wall.

The Prog/Check button - are you saying that will or won't record the +1 channels ?

Christine, the unit always turns on OK by itself here too.

The prog/check button showed only one channel was set to record - not both.

Hmmm well if it records while in stand by mode (she never turns it off at the wall) I have no idea why she has had failed recordings.
