I'm aware a Freeview box can have a HDD to record upon. How do I do this if I have built in Freeview on my TV?

You can't. Unless your TV has video out connector as well as audio out it's impossible to record. Very few new TVs have audio and video outputs but some newer ones do have capability to record to USB HDD of memory stick
Easiest/cheapest way to record Freeview is to buy a cheap STB to use as a tuner for your old DVD recorder or VCR. Best way is to buy a dedicated Freeview recorder.

You can. Some TV's with Freeview inbuilt have USB ports that can plug into a thumbdrive or USB HDD and record the currently watched program. My Panasonic does it. No support for the EPG or programming timer recordings though, so not anywhere near as good as a MyFreeview recorder.

don't mess with me.... i'm the hd insider....
