TonyS071: Hey, @oldfarter...

If you still have access to the patched/hacked firmware, you you please put it a few versions of it somewhere I can download it? The Dropbox links referred to in this thread have expired.

Keen on the sensible skip timers, and I like the idea of a hard disk that doesn't thrash itself. I have a timer ready to restart the whole box.

No Problem I thought. I Look to see what version I am running on the 3600, see that is v3.21

Look in a particular external HDD that I keep that sort of stuff, only to find that the latest patched version I have is v3.18

I know I have v3.21 as I have it on the 3600.

I now have to mount a Macrium Reflect backup image as it must be in there. Came here to inform you that there will be a delay when I see that RingoTB has posted a link to it. I have downloaded from that link as well. Thanks RingoTB.

Thanks also go to 2lostkiwis.

:)

Thank you guys.. that's awesome

I have downloaded the firmware and will try an upgrade in the next few days.

Dies the 3600 recognise any size USB stick, or do I have to find a small one?

Not sure about the size but make sure it is formatted in FAT32. I don't think it will recognize NTFS formatted USB sticks.

Also, if you ever have to do a Rescue Procedure, make sure you use an original firmware on the USB stick. I have had issues when using one of 2lostkiwis firmwares. Once the rescue procedure is complete, then upgrade to 2lostkiwis firmware.

RingoTB: Thanks for posting the link to the 3.21 2lostkiwis patch/hack.  Would it also be possible for you to post the hacks for 3.17 and 3.18 as well as well as the standard version of 3.18 in case I need to go back to this (I am on that currently)?  I am not that keen on having to use a power switch to regularly reboot the device so not sure what version might be best.

From memory, ver 3.18 was the best, no issues with memory leaks etc. The only catch is that when the Freeview metadata signal was adjusted, the 3.18 and earlier firmwares could not read the names. Everything was recorded was fine, you just could not read the name of the show in the menu. The later firmwares corrected the program naming, but in turn, introduced the memory leaks that require the restart.

Just so you all know, I am still lurking here :-) Unfortunately I gave up on the MTV3600 :-/ I even tried to upgrade the memory - which I got a long way, but I think a lot of the software is hard coded to expect a certain memory size.

I have since upgraded to an MTV3700, which I can report is everything the MTV3600 was. I have managed to patch the firmware on that unit too, but unfortunately not via a firmware update. It requires the cover to be removed for serial console access and takes about 10 minutes. I have patched 2 units this way, mine, my fathers and someone that got in touch via geekzone.

If anyone is interested, let me know. I am in the Auckland region.

Cheers...

Thanks for those files RingoTB (and for all your hard work creating them 2lostkiwis).  I will have a bit of a play to see which bug is most acceptable!

You might be interested that the memory leak occurs even if you haven't been using the machine and just have it on stand-by. The leak must be in part occurring when it automatically downloads the EPG in the early hours or whenever. Maybe it's not clearing out the old EPG properly. I have it completely switched off at the back now and only use it on the odd occasion when I need to record more than two channels - my Panasonic is my main recorder.

2lostkiwis, thanks for the update! Can you confirm that the MTV3700 is working in all respects, ie hasn't developed any problems like the recorded programme name problem?

Even though I'm disappointed with the abandonment of the MTV3600, I'm still considering an MTV3700 because the Panasonic is just so annoying - the EPG loading time being the worst part.
But I'd like to be clear that it does actually work fully before buying..

Thanks

I don't use mine that much to be honest. But I don't believe it has any problems like the MTV3600 currently has, such as stability and EPG issues. I will try and get my Dad who is a bigger user to comment in this thread also.

Cheers, Ian.

Hi I can confirm that my MTV3700 with 2lostkiwis patch has been preforming with no problems. We record programs daily and watch then skipping the ads using 4 presses of the skip forward 1 minute and if needed skips back 8 secs to find the start

of the program. I can honestly say I have rebooted probably five times since Jan 2015 because of a glitch in the MTV3700. Nothing to do with the patch. I very pleased with it. Martin

Here is the link to all the official MagicTV firmware downloads, both MTV3600 and MTV3700. It is not the hacked versions.
