RustyViewer: The title says it. Since I upgraded to 3.18, my Magic TV seems to randomly reboot about once a week. Why is this?

The 'restart almost immediately after powering on' issue has been around for a while (unfortunately!) Doesn't seem to be any updates forthcoming from Magic tv for this.

Actually when this problem was first reported, some 3.19 beta firmwares were made.  However, before the beta process could reach any conclusion, multiple users confirmed that a transmission change fixed their reboot problem:
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=43120&page_no=84

What seemed to happen was the problem went away (there was mentions of some signal that Mediworks were sending which upset the Magic box) and from page 89 of that same forum there are reports of it re-occurring. I have experienced it with the 3.19 beta 5 and the 3.18 official/patched releases.

Someone else commented that it probably happening more often than we notice with manually turning it on. I have the view of recorded programs set to be listed by 'series', rather than date/time. Often this has reverted to date/time which does happen with the auto restart. Some of my recordings have started late - I think due to the box restarting after powering on for a timer recording.

The last 3.19 beta 5 firmware was posted here:
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=62095&page_no=4#921162

Users still have this reboot problem should perform a factory reset, and may also try not standing by the Magic TV, and let it run 7x24.

I've noticed on the freeview forum http://freeviewforum.co.nz/forum/topics/error-2-when-trying-to-programme-1?id=6513406%3ATopic%3A39546&page=5# comments that there is actually a beta 6 available for -2 errors reported there after the latest restack of frequencies. Is this likely to be better?

How often is a factory reset likely to be required? Though this work around might work, it seems a bit unnecessary. I haven't seen any reports of similar things being required for other manufacturers boxes. I also have a Panasonic box which does not have any issues.

I'd be happy to test any new beta releases. Would it be possible for Magic tv to provide a 3600 to compare current version and beta versions? I'm located in Auckland. PM me for further arrangements.

The beta 6 was meant for users in Nelson area with booking issues only, at this point I do not recommend other users to try it.

Since the original post mentioned upgrading firmware, sometimes a factory reset after a firmware upgrade helps solve some mysterious problems.

RustyViewer: Well I've downgraded to customised 3.17 and I'm happy. :)

Downgraded today to 3.17, will report back if it fixes the problem or not.

So much for that idea, my box just immediately restarted when coming out of standby.

For MTV3600TD users experiencing "reboot right after wake up from standby" problem, please see if this firmware behaves the same:
http://www.magictv.com/nz/downloads/mtv3600_3_18NZa.zip

This is considered to be a BETA firmware for now.

Is there a changelog available for this beta?

I installed this firmware tonight and so far I haven't had any reboots from standby. I'll see how it goes tomorrow and report back.

I installed the v3.18 beta a version on Monday night. Tuesday night, no restart but again view of the programs had reverted to date/time instead of series. Wednesday night, no actual restart but picture went blank for ~15 secs. When picture came back, there was no sound, but changing channels on the Magic box restored it. Again, the view of the programs had reverted to date/time instead of series.

So you are on the right track, but not completely fixed yet. Thanks for your efforts.

Thanks for feedback.  If there's any more reboot after wakeup from standby, or after changing channel, or after stopping recorded programme playback, and that is preceded by the message ""Magic TV will restart. Please wait..." with firmware 3.18a, please report.

Unfortunately I had this last night. Was tuned to Prime when it was powered on. Did the 15 second blank screen, revert the the list to date/time. I reset it to series and then attempted to change channels and it restarted with the error message. Thursday night just did the 15 second blank screen, revert the the list to date/time.

Hope this helps

With the new 3.18a.  Came out of standby and after the logo cleared off the TV screen there was no picture.  Had to turn the TV off and on for the HDMI front panel icon to come up and get a picture.

So, for the "reboot right after wake up from standby" symptom, does this occur significantly less in 3.18a, or just the same?  Thanks.
