Nety: Have you got the guide working? I have run into a wall on that one. With the help of rustygonad I have got bladerunner working but when I go into media centre to setup the guide I keep getting error 14. I have read what I can find but a little stumped as to how to get past this.

I had the xmlTVNZ guide working perfectly when I just had the one tuner set up with Sky.  So I just used that when I added the second DVB-S tuner, and messed around for a bit with the guide setting in MCE to line up the channels with the guide feed.

Are you using xmlTVNZ to get your guide data Nety?

But what I couldn't work out is how I could show two lots of the same channels in the guide.  The whole reason for me getting a Freeview DVB-S tuner was so we could record a FTA channel and either watch another FTA channel or a Sky channel.  Or record a Sky channel and watch a FTA channel.

Without being able to set this up, it is a waste of time for me.  Just waiting for some more help from Rusty now.

Right, I've got VMC to the point where I can watch Freeview and Sky together now.

BUT.  Whenever I try to record a Freeview channel, it gives me a recording conflict, even though I'm not recording anything else or watching any other channel.

I hope Rusty returns soon so he can put me back on the right track!!!

I should mention that I was able to record a Freeview channel when I first set up Freeview, before I started taking copies of the registry settings.  It is not until I merged the analogue Sky feed and Freeview together that recording started to not work.

I can record Sky ok though with the two merged together.

Ok, this set up is just not working for me.  I spent ages setting everything up, including adding each of the Sky channels one by one and linking the guide to them one by one.

But as I mentioned above, I could not record Freeview for some reason.

Then I decided to reboot my HTPC, and that's when it turned pear shaped.  I could view a Freeview channel, but when I went to view a Sky channel, I received the following message:

UNSUPPORTED FORMAT
The tuner hardware does not support the TV format for your country or region code.
Ensure that you have the correct country or region code selected in Windows settings and that the tuner hardware supports that country or regions TV format.

I've got no answers from here, so have had to undo it all and revert back to just using Sky.

Rusty - if you are out there mate, I need your help with this one.  I've decided I'm not going to continue to try myself as I'm just wasting hour after hour.

Cheers,
Satch.

I had a crack yesterday at setting this up but cannot get off the starting blocks. I want to have freeview and Telstra cable TV both going through the media centre.

When I clear out the tuner info and remove the sat hack I still do not get any option to setup a STB it just scans for analogue TV. Looking at a guide for setting up STB under media centre 2005 I notice that they have an option to manually setup TV. That option does not seem to be in VMC. Is there anyway to get it or is there some other way to get it as an option?

I do not want to reinstall just to get that option back (I do remeber seeing it right early on).

How have you got your STB connected to your HTPC? (what connection and into what card?)

I've set up my Sky STB via the Satellite option in the TV signal set up.  That allows you to chose S-Video as the input, and to use an IR blaster to change channels on the STB itself.  I don't think that the Satellite option does anything special other than allowing you to use S-Video and STB IR blaster controls.

Give that a try and let me know how you get on.

I might give my dual tuners another crack today.  I'll follow the instructions again to the letter and see how I get on.

I'm using Vista.  I'm also running a PVR-150 (and one HVR-3000).  I don't know if that makes a difference?  It shouldn't do as the HVR-3000 is analogue also I believe.

Try and get RustyGonad back here.  He will be able to answer all our questions!  Have you heard from him at all in the last few days?

I'm new here, so be gentle with me. I just have a quick question.
I've done the analog/digital mode, all works great. My question is, how do I scan for extra Digital services without having to do the whole thing from scratch again?
Just asking cause I am in an area where digital isn't fully rolled out, and also the ABC seems to keep changing things around.

Just reading through and noticed the question about getting the Satellite, cable, Antenna option in vista.  If your Hybrid / analog card does not have a hardware mpeg encoder chip (think that's right) you need to use a software encoder like ArcSoft or Main Event (think that's what it's called)  I have not got links to these, but try a google search.  When you run them it allows your hybrid tv card to use the analog section in MCE.  That's how I use it in Vista MC.

So you are saying that you have both a digital tuner and analogue tuner working together, no issues, in Vista Media Centre?  Including the ability to record off one while watching the other?  And a reboot to your system does not wipe away any of your settings?

If the above is correct, then I'd be interested in getting further information from you.  I've tried several times to get this up and running, and I can only get to the stage where I can watch TV, but not record digital (Freeview SD).  And a reboot renders my analogue settings unusable.

I still have a couple of little glitches which I think are due to my hybrid card ( I am not using the HVR-3000, using a dvico card)

I can have the analog and digital showing in media centre at same time, but at this stage if I set to record analog, I can not record from digital at same time.  I believe this to be more because my card uses a shared tuner rather than a separate analog and digital on one card.  Not sure though, have to research further.

On reboot, it keeps all settings so I can see all analog and digital stations.

Only thing I really needed analog for though was for the Cable box to connect to SVideo in.

The only major glitch that annoys me is that I can not scan for extra digital services after setting up the analog side.

If I could solve that one, that would make me happier.  But apart from that it suits my needs the way it is.

I am using the ArcSoft software mpeg encoder with the card as my card does not have a hardware mpeg encoder for the analog side.  Don't know if this makes a difference as to keeping the analog after reboot or not.  Still experimenting a little.  WAF is still not at the level it needs to be for the system in general.

Damn Micro$oft for making us have to hack the registry to do this.   Should be easier way to get it right.

Just as an extra thought, I was lucky with my setup in that I did not have to move channels around as the digital services her use all 2 digit numbrs and all my cabl services are 3 or 4 digit numbers.  But I don't think moving channel positions around is hard to do in Vista MC
