Right, got my membership email from DVBViewer so I can download the software. Also got all the extra cable etc for my currently unused UHF areial on the roof. Hopefully later tonight I will be watching Freeview DVB-T

Couple of questions for those using VMC and DVBViewer.

I understand that the MCE remote can be used in DVBViewer, does it take over so that if I use say the channel change button on the remote it doesnt try and launch VMC again?

With the codecs installed is it possible to watch the .ts recordings in VMC?

I plan to use Mauricio's method for intergrating DVBViewer into VMC in order to launch the app and get back to VMC. This guide for DVBViewer. Hardware is a HVR3000 and a ATI HD2400Pro with Cyberlink Ultra codec.

Anyone know if the Tvix Add-on Tuner T430 is capable of the NZ DTT standards?  If so instead of putting together an HTPC I'll seriously think about sourcing a Tvix M6500A

Up and running with DVBViewer within 10mins. Thanks for the great guide. Upscaled TVNZ looks great cant wait for the real thing.

anyone using Media portal want to share how its going? I might look at giving it a go as its a bit of a pain having to use DVBViewer and Vista MCE for my analogue channels (Sky).

@geekiekeek:
Aren't you a backslidden MediaPortal user? Things are getting there with AAC still a few things that are being ironed out, I can't vouch too much though because my hardware is too crap, (will be updating in next few months). Otherwise all things MP/TVServer are very stable. I think TVServer 1.0 will be released soon, I see the Devs running around tidying up lots of little things.

I asked the NZ supplier that last November and was told that they will be bringing the 4130  tuner in later in  2008 so I suspect that if you buy it from Oz it won't work here.  I yet to see anything later than the TVIX 4000 for sale here in NZ so you must be bringing you M6500 from OS??

Yes once was a MP user but I found it to buggy at the time. I might fire it up and leave my VMC setup in place as well for WAF while I play with MP. Looking around the website it does look like the devs have gotton on top of things of late.

Would be good to use the DVB-S on my HVR3000 to get the EPG for all channels and then use Sky via my analogue card and freeview via the DVB-T.

Now that Cyberlink has removed the PowerDVD Ultra demo, I wonder if their HD264 Pack for WMP ($39) would be useful for people who need a H.264 codec for their HTPCs?

By the way, I just got a press release announcing Power DVD 8 Ultra. Not available for download yet but soon... I wonder if it brings better performance for HD users or just new features.

I will try an get the 6500 online from US, looks like Aus only has up to 5130, and the NZ supplier had no idea when they would get it in.  I will then get the tuner from here when the supplier in NZ sources it.

Anyone care to express a view on when we will begin to see some genuine source HD material being broadcast?  What types of programming are likely to feature initially?  Can we assume that most primetime local content will be HD straight away?  How do the broadcasters go about this simult-cast of HD and (analog) SD - is the source HD and rebroadcast on the old analog netwrk downconverted from the HD?

Well most prime time shows are already filmed and broadcast in HD (internationally) so it should be fairly easy to secure content. I wonder if shows like shortland street will be in HD?
