Anyone here running DTT tests on a mid-low specced machine?
I'm wondering how well its going to work with a 9600XT 256mb + P4 3ghz HT Northwood + 1gb ram. XP Pro + mediaportal when its supported.
Would 2 tuners at once affect performance also? i gather ts files are raw dumps, so if ones recording its not going to affect the other tuner watching?

old3eyes: I tried these on my new Popcornhour which will play back .TS files but only the TVNZ Sports extra will play and only the video.

Damn you got a popcorn!  How much was it landed?  How long didi it take? I'm waiting for the invite email, signed up few weeks ago.

I think it was NZ$289 on my Amex card bill last month.. Took 3 days to ship from Hong Kong to my desk at work..

Running a xp2500 with 9800XT. Well no not running I'd call it crawling. Not workable at all. 3Ghz you might get a bit closer? If you have a PCIe slot then get a card with hardware support for h.264 and you should be fine, as for me I'm doing a complete system rebuild which I expect to come to about $1200. As far a tuner cards go no big deal saving the .ts to disk just needs IO shouldn't be a problem; it's the decoding of the compressed video that's hard.

Not a chance.  If you don't have gfx card hardware H.264 decoding, then at a minimum you need a Core2 2GHz+ CPU.  Even my AMD 4400+ machine wouldn't decode without stuttering.  The most efficient way to do it is to get a gfx card supporting H.264 decoding.

Has anyone got an ATI card working properly with DVB-T? There are various users here having various issues. I have an HD2400XT in my desktop and I have issues. My Nvidia laptop is fine. It plays for a while fine but after a random period of time either the screen freezes along with the whole system requiring a manual turn off then on again (and once even a re-install of video drivers using safe mode) or the screen goes black, the monitor turns off and the same manual power off then on of the PC needs to be carried out.

May not be an ATI problem but others are having problems too so I'm sus . . .

I have an ATI X1950PRO and it works fine. I can even play back perfectly in Media Centre (AC3 channels 100%, AAC Channels no sound)

Oh, well that sucks. It plays the .ts test videos uploaded here perfectly fine with the latest cyberlink codecs (hardware accelerated i think), but those are obviously not live broadcasts, does this make a difference? Also they are 720p not 1080i..

The motherboard is agp, so no pci-e slots. Any chance of a tv card that will do most of the work or am i out of luck?

It appears that the reserved HD channel on the Kordia mux has been renamed "Freeview | HD" and moved to channel 100. No content at present though.

i do believe freeview will only be 720p

TVOne and TV2, over Freeview, will be 720p (but the decoder will be 1080i capable) while Sky and TV3 are still considering their options.

although freeviewnz.tv doesn't mention anything of the sort.

TV3 is live in Wgtn as well.

I was under the impression that all HD broadcasts on Freeview would be 720p. Are TVNZ sticking to 720p and Media Works going 1080i or are we likely to see TV3 moving to 720p soon?

Looks nice on my set but it's hard to really tell with the Adams Family on since it's so dark.

The only official announcements to date have been from TVNZ stating that they will be using 720p. MediaWorks haven't confirmed their format.

got another dumbest of dumb question guys - i do not have a uhf aerial as my uhf channels are pathetic. so - 3 questions

1) how can digital signals be transmitted as analogue (ie UHF) waves?
a) obviously they can - that's how dvb-s works, you moron!
b) dvb-s and dvt-t signals are different
c) there is no such thing as a digital signal unless you really want to expand on the dual particle-wave nature of light
d) a more correct answer

2) with the hauppauge nova t 500 or something - will it come with an aerial that is:
a) as good as the rooftop uhf aerial;
b) reasonable for a 50inch tv;
c) hopeless;
d) it doesnt come with an aerial

3) how many ways can you receive dvb-t signals apart from a costly permanent rooftop aerial if you have a set-top box (or hdtv w built in tuner or ps3 or whatever)?

sorry but thanks!

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.
