Well the rumours are flying in the official NZ/AUS Playstation forums that Freeview is going to announce their DVB-T launch date this week and that Sony are going to announce PlayTV availability at the same time. Fingers crossed.

It would be a great coup for Sony if they could do that. No idea how PS3's are out there but I would think many of those customers would buy the device if it were reasonably priced (say below a DVB-T receiver). Of course we would all be upgrading the HD's in our PS3's also!

I was at the TVNZ 7 public preview last week and some mention was made of freeview ready PVRs. The new TVNZ7 show Media 7 will be previewing them as part of their program, but public availability will probably be August ish.

Slightly off-topic but I just posted in the gaming forum some comments about upgrading the PS3's hard drive, which is perfectly acceptable to Sony and doesn't void your warranty. Also, if you are not comfortable with doing that you could always plug in an external USB drive.

old3eyes: I sent an email to Sony NZ last week about the Play TV but never got a replay..  How strange..

Got an email back from Sony...

"Thank you for your recent email.

At this time we have no official release date for PlayTV for all information and updates in relation to this product and all other PlayStation products we do advise visiting our website www.playstation.co.nz. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact us.

So basically no news..
