Is it the recording or playback that is the problem?

Interesting - I'm seeing the same thing.  Installed a new HDD in the weekend on the off-chance the old one is on the way out, and it's occasionally doing it too.  It's not what's stored on the disk, as rewinding and playing through again is generally fine.

Until I saw this post I was suspecting that it will be due to a failing capacitor, as the machine is getting on a bit and I've already replaced capacitors to fix a couple of common issues.  It could be that this machine has the same capacitor issue as mine, or maybe there's something else at play....?

When did the problem start?  I think we first saw it a month or two ago.

(Note - newer VuDuos have surface mount caps rather than the old electrolytics, so should be more stable in the longer term. )

It is just playback. If I rewind after it freezes or other issue and play that part again, it plays through fine.

I have only had this for a month and it has been happening since I got it.

I will try the latest download for Solo 2 and see if that helps as recommended by the previous owner.

In image for a Solo2 won't work on a Duo - they are different machines.

What image is it currently running?

Well, there's been about 6 years of updates since then - lots of errors corrected.

First thing I'd suggest is updating to a current release of OpenPLi from http://openpli.org/

You will probably have to update the bootloader first, as it's pretty out of date http://forums.openpli.org/topic/21131-vu-kernel-311-beta/page-6?p=242873#entry242873

Download and install the Autobackup plugin first, and save a backup of your settings - it will make it far easier rather than having to set everything up from scratch.

Then do an update using a USB stick.

Awesome, thanks.

I have updated the bootloader and then I watched a show without any problem. So nice to do after getting used to using the remote so much during viewing.

Where would I locate the Autobackup plugin and how do I save a backup of my settings?

Are there any other plugins that you would recommend?

Thanks Running Man!

Try menu -> plugins to see if it is already installed. If so, open it up and use the yellow button to do a manual backup. If not, from the plugins menu, select download plugins and scroll through to find it.

You'll find all manner of add ons in the plugins menu - autotimer is useful for adding timers based on searches by name or description rather than just the same time.

Oh, bootloader is not likely to have any direct effect on watching a recording - it just enables you to install newer versions of the software which are larger.

I have the 'vu plus nfi backup' plugin
I opened it and it reads 'execution process ' followed by a series of stars and commands
The yellow button is not effective.

I cannot seem to back up any settings here.

We have watched two shows since installing bootloader. So far glitch free.

Is there a different auto back up plug in that I can download?

Was having the same issue with my Tivo but we got a new TV cabinet so everything had to be unplugged and reset up. After that the issue went away.

I did find one of my HDMI cables was dodgy as I used it with my amp and it was cutting out.

Replaced that and the whole set up works perfectly now. Could be worth a try.

Yes, it isn't there. Is there a way to get it?
