He people, I have this Panasonic unit and it frequently (once a minute or so) loses video signal for a couple of seconds at a time. The screen just goes dark for 2 or 3 seconds, but the audio feed continues. Can anybody shed any light as to why this is happening?

Interestingly, it only seems to start occurring after the unit has been running for a while, and only happens while watching TV through the unit, but not watching anything recorded to the hard drive. When turning the unit off, and watching TV directly through our TV, everything is fine and no glitching, so I'm thinking this eliminates any reception/areal issues. Is anyone else having the same problem? Or know of a solution?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same issue as you do, have just put up with it at this stage, as I phoned Panasonic the first time it happened, but they were very dismissive of the issue. Have found the odd time that I have had to turn off the unit and restart to stop the video issue happening. Unit has the latest updates via the network connection/check.

Check that the unit has the latest firmware installed also try turning off the MyFreeview feature this known to be troublesome on these units.

Seems you're having the same issues many with this unit are having as described in the thread here:

https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=83&topicid=197985

As @MikeB4 mentioned above, it seems linked to the FreeviewPlus on the unit as switching it off seems to stop the issue.

I have the 550GZ which has the same issue but rather than turn off FreeviewPlus (which I occasionally use) I simply watch 'live' TV through the TV's inbuilt tuner and only watch recordings on the unit.

Hi just wondering how you turn off free view plus as I'm having issues with the dreaded black screen while watching Monster Fish on channel 1.

Thanks :)

Mike, did you get the black screen issue fixed? I wonder if it still persists on newer Panny units?

No, I gave up, dumped the machine and got Sky and a Xbox S for Netflix and Bluray .

Yeah it was never fixed on these units. I just have freeview plus turned off and never had a problem since, we never used the freeview plus options on it so never worried me but if you did want to use it then its not fit for purpose.

Panasonic deny there is any fault and will tell you its a signal issue.

I bought one 2 months ago and it's been fine until yesterday when it failed to record and all that was displayed on the unit was "please wait" , the remote got no response and the TV was black screen, it worked fine again after I switched the power on and off, Panasonic said it could be the free-view data being corrupt, and suggested I did a factory reset which I have done. but wonder if any later firmware will fix it mine is version 1.00.

I have something very similar but not identical so can't say if it is related. I have a device I plugged into the USB of my Android box for power. Then I started getting the blackouts as you describe. After some hair-tearing I decided to try powering the device from a separate supply. So far this appears to have solved the problem. Maybe a clue for you, maybe not.

Screen started blanking out today for a couple seconds lots of times over a period of 10 minutes, but now it's fine again. so 1.04 hasn't fixed it

My power supply trick didn't work either. It's maddening when something is so intermittent. Almost impossible to determine cause and effect.

Mine gave me some trouble with hesitations on playback when I was watching a program that was recording at the time and had nearly caught up I now let things record or watch TV live, it might be to much for the HDD to deliver a constant bit rate while recording 2 programs in HD and playing one of them back in chase play.
