What's new in this version:

  • The overall stability and reliability of EyeTV has been improved.
  • EyeTV 3.0.2 now automatically updates the built-in EyeConnect server. If you are using EyeTV 3's shared archive feature, this requires updating to EyeTV 3.0.2 on all computers.
  • A problem that caused MPEG Program Stream exports to be corrupted has been resolved.
  • A problem where Smart Guides would not update if two Smart Guides used the same criteria for "Any field" has been resolved.
  • A problem which caused the Smart Guide searches to be 1 hour off has been resolved.
  • A problem where edited MPEG-4 EyeTV recordings would not play back over markers has been resolved.
  • Numerous improvements to resolve problems while running EyeTV from a non-admin user account.
  • Problems which would cause the EPG to not be updated on a Standard User Account have been resolved.
  • The RAM Cache in EyeTV is now limited to 1.5GB.
  • The channel sorting for European channels has been improved.
  • A problem that would cause the Turbo progress bar in EyeTV to use a large amount of CPU when exporting has been resolved.
  • EyeTV now correctly auto-tunes both UHF and VHF channels in New Zealand.
  • EyeTV now automatically starts and stops the EyeConnect server when the location of the EyeTV archive has changed.
  • Resolved a problem with shared recordings not appearing.
  • A problem which caused SECAM D/K analog signals to lose audio has been resolved.
  • DVB subtitles no longer display over the editor and On Screen Menus.
  • Improved parsing of the XMLTV data. Errors are now logged to the Console when XMLTV files can not be parsed. Successful parsing of the XMLTV data is also now logged to the Console.
  • Several problems with EyeTV's auto update feature have been fixed so that downloads are now more reliable.
  • Full Support for H.264 Broadcasts
  • Closed Captions Support in QuickTime Format Exports (North America only)
  • Sweden has been added to the list of countries available for use with the tvtv electronic programming guide (EPG). When Sweden is selected as a country, the EPG will automatically be set to tvtv - UK.
  • Separate Deinterlacing Options for Standard TV and HDTV
  • Improved On Screen Menus
  • Unplayed Recordings Badge
  • Support has been added for the TerraTec Cinergy T USB XXS.
  • Support has been added for the Digital Everywhere line of FireWire tuner products (FireDTV C/CI, T/CI, and S2). Please contact Digital Everywhere for a firmware update.
  • EyeTV 310 firmware has been updated to work with the Netherlands Pay TV provider "Canal Digitaal".

Note the references to full h.264 support and New Zealand auto tuning. On the elgato site they specifically mention support for New Zealand's Freeview HD service.

Great news.

I've been looking for an HD Homerun for sale in NZ, but haven't had much luck. I figured that the dual tuners would come in very handy - I use them all the time with MySky - which the eyetv would be replacing.

Please post any experiances with this new EyeTV version in this thread, I'm very interested in this.

Edit: I have ordered an EyeTV Diversity from Oz (couldn't find a store in NZ that sells it).

Cheers, Ed.

I also didn't see any mention of AAC, weird that they would even mention Freeview NZ without it though.

Personally I was always intending on using HandBrake to transcode the MPEG TS from the EyeTV to an mp4 file rather than the EyeTV - although I'll try both and see which I prefer. I guess it will depend a bit on what H.264 compression features are being used, and therefore whether the H.264 requires transcoding for AppleTV playback.

Cheers, Ed.

Hi All

I can confirm that the 3.02 upgrade seems to be working for me tonight
I'm receiving all freeview channels with audio where previously I was only getting picture on channel 1 & 2 with no audio.
I am using an El Gato Hybrid and a 1.83Ghz C2D Mac Mini

What about EPG, is the 8 day EPG working fine? Also can you record, if so is the recording in HD as well?

Looks like support arrived in nick of time.  I guess once addressing the urgent fix for Norway we would be just another variant of that implementation. Quick test with the EyeTV Hybrid picked up all channels in autoscan (without exhaustive) and audio comes through great.  Will have to check on EPG later... and hopefully this fix might address the fact that EyeTV will not let my wife's Macbook sleep (even with helper off and not running it still causes wake events.  Had also disabled epg)

Time to get the old EyeTV 410 out of the cupboard where it has been since moved from Aus.

It doesn't have the ability to grab the MHEG5 EPG data ( hopefully it is being worked on), but a bit of mucking around with one of the NZ XMLTV sources worked well, ( only downside is you cannot atomate the fetching in eyeTV (well not as far as I can work out), has anyone heard if freeview will be providing a public domain XMLTV feed, rather than having to rely on a scraping service.

But HD recording works fine,

HI,

EPG guide data can be automated - I just sent an applescript off to Fossie to post that will get the xmltv guide data and send it to EyeTV.

The applescript can be scheduled to run on a daily basis via a cron command or an event in ical.

Enjoy!

I am running the EyeTV Hybrid on a 2.0GHz Intel iMac with 2GB RAM.. The picture quality is excellent far better than the previous versions. I am getting quite a bit of stuttering even with no apps running in the background. Very keen to see the applescript to get the EPG..

If you have a fast mac then this is an excellent solution.

With a Macbook Pro 2.33 with 3GB RAM, found most stations were great, but TV3 was shocking breaking up, jittery, and bad compression effects.  Signal strength would oscillate from 98% to 65%.  I think it was 1080i stream.  Will check later

It's an awesome script btw. Run the script for the first time, then in eyetv set the channel EPG to xmltv, and your away. XMLTVScript. (sorry rapidshare is the best I can do right now, ill get it up somewhere else soon)
